What would you choose, LC250 or LC300?

I answered this a while back all in on 250. I got to drive a 300 GRS a few weeks ago in NZ. I still much prefer the look of the 250. The inside of the 300 was very similar to the 250, but the engine was a beast in it. Now the fact that many of the V6 twin turbos have been recalled is a huge concern, but driving one certainly made me rethink the question.

Id choose 300 based on 2 reasons

1. I could go to forums and bully Landcruiser's owners I deem less than me
2. I would non longer be a 4runner owner filled with LC250 envy

Id choose the LC250 all day, My CFO (wife) pre-approved an LX550 "upgrade" over my LC250, I declined...
I love the LC250 looks, Hybrid system and capability. Love the hate and the underdog vibes. Id choose a 300 over an LX550 and a LC250 over a 300

I never bought a LC because recent iterations were always too large for me and too station wagon looking. It's one of the reasons that I've been a truck guy instead of a SUV. When the new LC 250 came out, I knew immediately that I had to have one. Finally a LC that was smaller than the last 10 years or so that I would want to own. My love for the LC name plate goes back to the 80's and an old LC that a buddy of mine had at work (we were early 20's at the time). I was driving an '87 Toyota 4x4 with the standard cab and long bed back then and could only dream of affording that LC he was driving. 30 years later, I finally found one. As to the cost of the 300... Hell I've put 15 grand into my LCLC Premium already. I'm damn close to a 300 (or GX550) in cost already, and I'm not done yet. Most of the mods you can't even see and are mission critical to me to get out in the wild.

You could always import a 2001 70 series from Japan, latest model year available for unrestricted import and exempt from EPA and NHTSA standards. The 25 year import rule. If your north of the border 2011 is currently the newest imports allowed.

I've been dailying my JDM 80 for 3.5 months now and loving it and will daily the even more spartan 40 most of the summer nothing more enjoyable to drive for me! I did a 1000 mile road trip in the 40 summer before last.

Maybe I'll get a 70 series once I retire and downsize on the house?

The only downside is your mostly on your own for maintenance, repairs and most all parts require tracking down and importing from markets they are sold in. Toyota US won't touch them, so if your not mechanically capable and have the tools to do so, your left to find a Land Cruiser specialist shop. All the old Toyotas especially the imports can be money pits so one needs to do their research before diving in.

When I purchased my '18 TRD PRO, I really wanted a 200 series but it wouldn't fit the garage with everything else I had. I still considered picking one up but never did. I purchased a '25 4Runner TRD PRO with intentions of keeping the '18 and leaving it at the farm. Really amazed and happy with the new PRO. Made the mistake of dropping by the dealer and driving the Land Cruiser. I kept it over night due to time constraints and got on this forum that evening, scanning threads. This forum is leaps and bounds better than the 6th Gen 4Runner forum. Members here seem to be more experienced and definitely a more mature member base. I've performed suspension and performance mods. My L250 runs strong and handles and rides nice. This vehicle is pretty contemporary and enjoyable. I wouldn't trade it for a 200 Series, thus doubt I would look at a 300. I like that the LC250 is nicely equipped with modern technology without being over the top. It has the feel of the Classic Range Rover considering the seating position and windscreen, it's solid, luxurious with more of a basic vehicle, with Toyota's reliability and new gen performance and handling, if that makes sense.? It also has a similar belt line with remarkable visibility outwards. I get a lot of compliments and a friend with a stock 1958 hates me
