For the last 30 years I have pickup trucks with toppers on them, so I had lots of room to carry stuff. I carried 3 lawn chairs, 2 shovels, 2 hand saws, tow rope, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, sleeping bag, blankets and extra clothes. With the LC I don't have enough room to pack everything. So what stuff do I need to carry for emergencies?

Bedding to 0° F is in the rooftop tent. In the back is soda, beer, snacks, a little tent to change clothes or poop in, a first aid kid with all toiletries, tools, a torch, a milk crate full of cured oak firewood, some flashlights, some battery banks, a jump box, some landscaping shears, paper towels, hand soap, dish soap, a single-burner stove, coffee, water... Pretty much, I'm ready to camp any time. If it's going to be for a long time, I bring a change of clothes, camp chairs, and a Zodi shower.

I have a fully stocked bike repair shop tucked away in those cubbies.

And cam straps of course.

A pistol should be a foregone conclusion but I'll mention it anyway

For me, it depends on the destination. My daily is bike tools and other tools to help myself and others.
Winter is the only time I carry a warm blanket, hat, gloves etc., in the back.

As little as possible or truly needed. Pack for the situation, not just because. :)

You can probably still carry a lot of those things, but maybe grab an updated, compact version of those items?

This is the chair I keep in my LC, it folds up very compact

For a shovel and saw, I keep these in the rear storage areas

I quit carrying recover gear. I realized I never got stuck on the beach, and all this recovery gear was for others. So - if they need help and they're all rigged up with straps, I'll stop and help; but if they're in a sedan and cluelessly went too far, I direct them to the FB recovery page

In my first aid kit, I have one of those shiny mylar blankets - takes up almost no space

  • Got my gmrs radio for now mounted on my molle panel with the antenna.
  • Need to strap that first aid kit that came with the truck on it too.
  • In the front trunk compartment I got my portable fishing rod with reel.
  • Side compartment this rear window mesh cover. And Velcro strap on the other side with the hitch pin
  • rear compartment behind the seats. I have my hammock stashed (already came handy few times). All the manuals shoved in that compartment too.
  • a tiny lawn chair that I need to strap to the molle panel.

I was once doing a day hike a few hours away from home, came back to the car having a broken window. Cops/AAA couldnt/wouldnt help. Had to run to a Dollar Tree to buy duct tape, a clear plastic shower curtain, trash bags, and a broom. We used the broom+dustpan to clean up as much glass as possible then cut the shower curtain and duct-taped it around the door so we could drive down the highway without glass flying everywhere or with a booming open window.

Obviously all that crap inst necessary for an emergency but :
  • duct tape or electrical tape
  • trash bags
  • knife/scissors
are a good starting point if you ever do get a broken window.

One other important piece of kit are Windshield wipers, I like to keep an extra set in the car since being able to see is kind of important, especially if you got places to be.

I daily carry: (pics/links to most items on my build page)
Jump box (my LC is finicky about the 12v battery going flat) and a solar charger perm mounted under the roof rack
Compact lug wrench
18' jumper cables
Re-chargeable LED flashlight
Tool roll with wrenches, screw driver, pliers, hammer, elec tape, gaffers tape etc.
Tire patch kit with extra externally installed valve stems
Fuse assortment and a DIY emergency 300 amp fusible link
Air Compressor (perm installed under hood), tire gage
Throw down blanket/ground cover
Small assortment of 10mm nuts/bolts
150 ft "blue steel" tow rope, two 4-1 pulleys, soft shackles and a receiver hitch tow eye
Couple of old towels
G-Baby's car seat

On planned outings I add, folding chair, Eco-Flo Fridge, Eco Flo pwr bank, solar panels, small fan, inflatable foam mattress, window bug screens, food/beverage totes and a battery powered chain saw. I probably forgot a few items

I carry a husky torque wrench from home depot (its as big as a breaker bar) for changing a tire.

Air compressor in a bag for road trips. Flashlight. Knife. Tire gauge
