Aussies are off-roading royalty! That's so cool how all those Australian companies are going so deep into the modifications, and I think it even released later over there also
We're still waiting for a bigger gas tank![]()
Not sure if some of you guys have your info right or not I have an LC 250 or Prado as it is called here we have a different engine as we only have a 2.8 liter diesel available. These all come with what they call 48 volt mild hybrid (not sure if this is the same hybrid system you have or not. The wading depth is set at 700mm. As N0m@d said there was a journalist who was testing a LC 250 where he hit water at speed and managed to get water into the hybrid system which eventually stopped the vehicle - that’s why I had a factory snorkel installed. There was lots of complaining here as we have to put up with a large amount of space taken up by the hybrid cover which we were told was for the US hybrid. The one that failed reportedly got water in the auxiliary electric-motor system. The 48v mild-hybrid involves only an electric motor assisting the diesel engine via belt. Adds a few hp and torques. Comes into play mainly about town. IIRC the engine intake also cools the electric motor and it's supposedly here that water got taken into the electrics and bricked the Prado a couple of days after being driven through a waterway. Has given the haters something to latch onto. Media outlet it happened to claims they treated it the same as other brands' vehicles in a convoy and only the Prado crapped itself. Toyota responded by insisting fording only be done at walking pace.how come a snorkel prevents hybrids system from getting wet?
Thanks, I was thinking the config is similar to NA hybrid that has a electric motor between engine and transmission and was confused how snorkel helped that. The one that failed reportedly got water in the auxiliary electric-motor system. Just Autos has released their Multimap package for some more HP... check it outJapanese engineers spent 18 months in Australia testing as aspects of the vehicle probably for a number of reasons - we have the extremes in climate and terrain and we are a large market for 4WD’s.
I only wish they had given us more Hp and a greater load capacity (mine is limited to 580 kg) I have fitted a bull bar and winch, I plan to tow a camper with a ball weight of 220 kg’s it doesn’t leave me much left. I don’t want to do a GCM upgrade.
The 500mm hybrid max safe wading depth makes some sense to me. If the OEM LC250 tire diameter (USA) is approx 32.6"/828mm, then the midpoint/center of the axle would be around 414mm. 700mm+ deep wading would put the entire wheel under water on a stock vehicle.Media outlet it happened to claims they treated it the same as other brands' vehicles in a convoy and only the Prado crapped itself.
