Mine was targeted today — they cut through and rolled it out onto the street, but couldn’t get it started thanks to a third-party security device. Just wondering how best to get it sorted — anyone recommended in the Surrey area?.

It’s been to the dealer, and the estimate for the tailgate and electrics comes to £2,470.43 plus VAT. Just waiting on the quote for the bumper now, as they clipped another car on the street while rolling it off my drive, causing damage. Toyota also offered to fit a CAN bus system for £329.

It’s what saved mine

Your quote for the repair a lot less than mine - mine was over £5k and it’s just a tailgate replacement paint and fitting with glass swap etc

Got it back - 15 days at dealer - no work done in that time as the tail gate was on back order - why they told me all parts in stock and able to carry out the repair 2 weeks ago when in fact it’s still 2 weeks from delivery is beyond me

Rather destroys the image of Toyota mail dealers being more competent than the industry average

Serious question, are thefts/attempted thefts like this really as common place in the UK/Canada as it seems on this forum? I can't remember the last time I heard of a car being stolen/attempted stolen here where I Live in DFW, Texas. Car thefts happen sure but they are very rare. Plenty of car break ins but almost always a smash and grab on the window of something someone left visible.

Something needs to change to prevent these from happening I would think . . .

Are you asking whether LC thefts are common or vehicle thefts ?

Tiny number of LCs in UK but car theft generally is at epidemic level

As an example in had a new Range Rover on order but no insurance company would cover it and I like in a nice part of London

Google says “England and Wales reported approximately 375,000 vehicle thefts in the year ending September 2024, ”

Insurance costs are going up rapidly and some vehicles are hard to insure in some locations

There is one, critical factor here. In the USA, especially in TX (DFW is where I am from!), there is a special tool, with constitutional authority and legal precedence, that permits you to use said tool in these scenarios. My brother is Fort Worth PD, and he still sees plenty of auto theft and attempted theft there. With that said, I do think our legal deterrents have an effect.
