Toyota Extended Warranty Thread U.S. (negotiated price list)

I spoke with Midwest Toyota today about an extended warranty.

It was refreshing to talk to a car dealer without the bull crap that is usually part of any discussion with a car dealer.

The person I spoke with was honest, forthright and asked what I was interested in, offered me a good price and the entire transaction took 10 minutes.

Anyway, I got 8 years, 125k miles for $2,400 including the 3% credit card fee.

I also had a good experience dealing with Troy Dietrich at Greenfield this month. Bought 10 years, 100k miles, for $2230. The finance person where I bought my 2025 LCLC said this price was below their cost and wouldn't go lower than $3500.

My dumbass found this thread after buying the warranty, $100 deposit... womp, fingers crossed to never use it anyways

In my neck of the woods, customers are not even able to buy Toyota Factory backed warranties, due to Southeast Toyota Distributorship which sells Fidelity Warranties which in turn is owned by JM Enterprises which also owns Southeast Toyota Distributorship.

So, I knew going in that I would have to buy my warranty outside of Florida.

Anyone has had any experience getting a decent quote in Southern Cali area. I Just purchased mine and my dealership wanted $3900. Seemed high to me, so I did not purchased teh warranty yet. Any input would be greately appreciated. San Diego to L.A. area would be fine.

Knowing Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota couldn't sell to me since I live in California, I still reached out in hopes of him being able to. Well the answer hadn't changed, no. Something to do with a California law.

So I took to Google to find a dealer in CA who was competitive. Came across this post on Toyota Nation mentioning JJ at Jim Bagen Toyota in South Lake Tahoe. Turns out JJ is now the GM, he passed me over to Wayne. Wayne gave me the following quotes. I tried my best to see if he would match Jerry's prices but Wayne said no. I've sent my details over to him to begin the purchasing process for the 10/100k warranty.

8yr - 100k miles cost $1,725.00
10yr - 100k miles cost $2.330.00

Unfortunately South Lake Tahoe is over 6 hour drive from San Diego. I did read that post, but have not read any for Southerm Cali. Here in CA you have to go in person to the dealer to pay for it. I know it sucks...

Can I assume that it's irrelevant from which dealer I buy the extended Toyota warranty? I can claim benefits from any dealer in the US? I never realized that I could shop around for the Toyota warranty independent of where I bought my LC.

Unless California is different, you can

In general, yes you can buy a Toyota warranty from any Toyota dealer. Evidently, some states may impose additional restrictions making it more difficult to purchase from any dealer in the US (a la California.) I live in IL, bought my LC in MO, and the warranty from a dealer in MA (Troy Dietrich).

Fabulous, thanks. One more question if you don't mind. Is there any advantage to buying it now, versus waiting a few years when I'm close to the expiration of the original Toyota warranty?

You don’t have to visit the dealer physically to buy the extended warranty. I did everything via email, then hopped on a quick call to provide my CC number. Moments later he sent my receipt. A couple of weeks later I received my official docs from Toyota. FYI I live 4 hours away from Bagan Toyota.

It was a smooth and straightforward transaction with Wayne at Jim Bagan Toyota in South Lake Tahoe.

One big caveat, in certain States covered by Southeast Toyota Distributorship (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina), you cannot even buy the Toyota VSA (extended warranty), you can only buy Fidelity Extended Warranties which the dealerships in those States all claim is the same as Toyota VSA and in those States it probably is, but outside those States, it is a 3rd party warranty and a very different process to get work covered.

I declined the Fidelity Warranty and bought from Jerry Johnson as I wanted the Toyota branded VSA.

Another Jerry Johnson (Midwest Toyota) customer here - Purchased $1320 Toyota Platinum VSC on 10/21/24 - includes full extension of factory warranty for 5 year/ 125K miles from with Roadside Assistance - zero deductible. Purchased LC in August '24, currently with 22K miles and on track to do about 25K miles a year so far, so chose this specific one. Happy with the deal.

A customer of Jerry’s too. 7/125 for me. $ 1920 all in on my 2025 lc. Dealer wanted $3k for 5/75 or something outrageous (that was their “you’re a good customer special discount”) like that. Usually don’t purchase warranties but with the fair price they offered I went with it. Thx to this forum for giving fair options where it’s NOT a one sided deal!

Do you happen to have his contact information. Thank you so much for the tip. I thought we had to pay physically for it here in CA.

My bad, I had no idea California is that big.

I can’t think of a good reason to buy now as opposed to waiting a bit other than the possibility of the price going up, but that’s just a maybe. I bought mine when I bought my LC.

I am shopping for a VSA platinum and got a much better offer for the platinum VSA from a dealer 7 hrs away from where I live (both of us in CA). This detail in the VSA contract language caught my eye: VI. Conditions to Coverage, item K. “You MUST (written in all caps in the contract) take your covered vehicle to your selling dealer for all repairs covered under this agreement. If this is not possible, you must contact the administrator PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH REPAIRS (toll free number listed)”. The selling dealer is noted in the definitions as that listed on the first page of the contract (I.e. the dealer selling the VSA). Does anyone have previous experience with Toyota VSA claim repairs done at dealers you did not purchase the VSA from? Does it add any more hassle or leave an opening to deny coverage? I called the Toyota number listed and the gentleman I spoke to was a little surprised that verbage was in there. He told me I could take it to any Toyota dealer and don’t need to call, but that language cannot be stricken from the agreement. I imagine if you are buying a warranty with an extended number of years, they wouldn’t really expect people to stay put in one part of the country and not move for that long?

I don’t know or have a answer for that. Good attention to detail catching it. I don’t think any dealership service repair (covered by the warranty) would be denied by Toyota VSA. Imagine if this has happened one of us would have heard of such a thing in one of the other Toyota Owner Forums. The person you called, was he a representative from Toyota VSA? I don’t think it is likely to happen, it just doesn’t make any sense. Maybe it’s added verbage in the contract from just that dealer? It states on the website “access to the nationwide Toyota service network”.
