Toyota Extended Warranty Thread U.S. (negotiated price list)

I am shopping for a VSA platinum and got a much better offer for the platinum VSA from a dealer 7 hrs away from where I live (both of us in CA). This detail in the VSA contract language caught my eye: VI. Conditions to Coverage, item K. “You MUST (written in all caps in the contract) take your covered vehicle to your selling dealer for all repairs covered under this agreement. If this is not possible, you must contact the administrator PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH REPAIRS (toll free number listed)”. The selling dealer is noted in the definitions as that listed on the first page of the contract (I.e. the dealer selling the VSA). Does anyone have previous experience with Toyota VSA claim repairs done at dealers you did not purchase the VSA from? Does it add any more hassle or leave an opening to deny coverage? I called the Toyota number listed and the gentleman I spoke to was a little surprised that verbage was in there. He told me I could take it to any Toyota dealer and don’t need to call, but that language cannot be stricken from the agreement. I imagine if you are buying a warranty with an extended number of years, they wouldn’t really expect people to stay put in one part of the country and not move for that long?
It might be a third party warranty, that the dealership you called has labeled as a Platinum, but isn't a VSA Platinum from TFS (Toyota Financial Services).

In my case I have a 3rd party issued by the dealer 11 years, 120K miles + lifetime powertrain but it is not a TFS warranty. I can take it to any dealer for 90% of the vehicle or I can call and get permission from my selling dealer for repairs at another dealer for the remaining 10%. It was explained to me that after 11/120, powertrain, the lifetime portion, replacement would only be covered, if performed by my selling dealership.

The agreement lists Toyota Financial Services and I was sent the standard Toyota VSA info deck with it.

I don’t know or have an answer for that. Good attention to detail catching it. I don’t think any dealership service repair (covered by the warranty) would be denied by Toyota VSA. Imagine if this has happened one of us would have heard of such a thing in one of the other Toyota Owner Forums. The person you called, was he a representative from Toyota VSA? I don’t think it is likely to happen, it just doesn’t make any sense. Maybe it’s added verbage in the contract from just that dealer? It states on the website “access to the nationwide Toyota service network”.
Yes the number was to Toyota Financial Services / Toyota Motor Insurance, and the person I spoke with was a rep that picked up when I selected the “check status of agreement” voice menu. The dealer is Jim Bagan Toyota, which many on this thread have purchased from. I do agree with you it sounds not likely, but wasn’t sure if another rep on another day would say something different.

I am curious if others who purchased from other dealers can confirm if this item K in section VI is in their agreement as well.

Is that the Fidelity Warranty sold by Southeast Toyota Financial?

A neighbor bought the Fidelity Warranty sold by SET and he had mixed results with it, they did cover a steering rack replacement at a SET territory dealer, but they refused to cover a fairly inexpensive repair, the replacement of the HVAC blower motor at a non-SET territory dealership.

As to the question of the work being done at a specific dealership who sold the Toyota VSA, IME (and not based on any direct knowledge of Toyota), generally speaking a Factory backed warranty will work at any dealership of the brand.

Did Toyota change things? It is anyone's guess.

Yes, it's Fidelity.

Yes, it's Fidelity.
I do not know how long you have lived in a State covered by SET, but I have spent my entire life in Florida and I am very familiar with SET and JM (Jim Moran) Enterprises which owns SET and Fidelity Warranties.

In any State covered by SET, no dealership is allowed by SET to sell TFS (Toyota Financial Services) VSAs, they must instead sell Fidelity Warranties which some dealers try and pass of as the same as TFS VSA sold in other States.

In States covered by SET, Fidelity Warranties are in fact very similar to TFS VSAs and most likely you will not have any issues using it, the trouble occurs in States not covered by SET, sometime Fidelity will pay and sometimes they won't and will through up roadblocks, it all depends.

The irony is that if one buys a Lexus in Florida (or any other SET State) they are able to buy a LFS (Lexus Financial Services) VSA and are not required to buy a Fidelity Warranty.

I found this out when my Father went to buy a Lexus and went to JM Lexus (which is regarded as the best Lexus Dealership in Florida from a customer service point of view), the JM in JM Lexus is Jim Moran, the same Jim Moran as JM Enterprises, SET and he was able to purchased a LFS VSA, not a SET required Fidelity Warranty.

When my Father confirmed this with the F&I Salesman, he said, yeah Lexus is exempt from that requirement, in fact SET does not do the finance for Lexus, it is Lexus Financial Services.

The F&I guy said something to my Father that was a bit off-color, he said to my Father only the plebs have to deal with SET.

I am not sure how I feel about that Statement, in large part because my LC costs more than some Lexus models.

I can confirm, yes. This is in my 10yr/100k Platinum VSA.
I've always kept my warranty agreements in my glovebox in the past. A dealer told me a while back that they do not share records with each other. They also told me it is absolutely necessary to make sure the warranty has been confirmed before repairs have begun. This might have to do with pre-authorization of the warranty coverage at a different dealer.

Alabama may not be the same as FL. I had the option of TFS, 75k warranty or the SET 120k warranty.
I have learned something new, in Florida, dealers will not sell TFS VSA, due to SET demanding that dealers only sell Fidelity (SET) warranties.

I have spoken to SET about it and the person I spoke with at SET said that they had permission from Toyota to not offer TFS VSAs in the SET covered territories.

Maybe things have changed or maybe the laws in Alabama preclude SET from exclusively selling Fidelity (SET) warranties, not too sure.
