Today’s sermon: If I Could Choose My Land Cruiser Again… Come forth and testify, brothers and sisters. We are listening.

Wouldn’t change a thing.
Meteor with Java, Base trim, non-premium pkg with sunroof (which I open quite a bit), 18s with Falken AT4ws, rock rails. From time to time I think of how much I like Heritage Blue, but I’m happy with what I’ve got.

10/10 would buy it again. Love Heritage Blue and Greyscape. No major complaints and I plan to have it a long time.

Given a choice I would get the 18” wheels instead of 20”. Though it’s a great excuse to go with 17”.
I would like Toyota to make to gas tank 20 gallons so that when I fill up I could put in 18 instead of 14.5 gallons.
I believe it has an 18 gallon tank, but you can only put 14.5 in with a 3.5 gallon reserve.

I woulda preferred mine came without the predator steps and the FE roof rack. I ended up changing both of those items. I would have loved a sunroof on my 1958! Oh and heated sideview mirrors! Otherwise she's great!

The coolbox is a nifty little feature, and I enjoy it every day. But I would take the increased storage capacity all day every day. I have things (such as larger L-shaped tools) that I would love to be able to slip in there!

Bad, I would be thrilled to have the cool box in a much larger size - this one is just so tiny!
That’s a good point. Sounds like the coolbox is one of those features that’s great to have until you actually need the space. I can definitely see how a slightly larger one would be the best of both worlds. Toyota needs to hear this!

I want to both have my cake and eat it. Is that really too much to ask‽ 😆

That’s a great line Yanu, & so relevant to LC owners.

Owners like the capability of the LC, some attracted to the looks , some history/heritage angle, yet many want to remove the cooler (+25 years offering in LC’s) for storage space. I get it, but sure cool Toyota offers it at all. Pun intentional.

What do I know, it still bothers me no one complains that today’s Dodge Chargers now have 4-doors! THE classic Charger is the ‘68 440 Magnum in Bullit - ok, maybe today it’s become Torretto’s ‘70 Hemi in F&F fame.

Mine was being built in Japan when I bought it so I was able to choose exactly what I wanted. My wife insisted on me getting the black seats instead of the java I wanted. I figured if that would secure her buy-in I could deal with black seats. She thought the cool box was a goofy gimmick.

I've wondered what kind of fuel economy I'd get with the stock tires instead of the 33" Ridge Grappler all-terrain option it came with, but I bought the Land Cruiser to last forever and always get me to and from my film shoots. After 5k miles I'm averaging 20.85 mpg. After 5k miles in the Telluride I averaged 21.59 mpg, and that was with 20" wheels and touring tires.

We just got back from a road trip to Destin from San Antonio, and my wife loved having ice cold sparkling water cans from the cool box. And I hit 23 mpg on a tank of gas for the first time. The Telluride did have a smidge more cargo space, and I do miss that flat floor and extra 5 cubic feet when loading in gear for shoots. But the Telluride transmission going out at 80k was sad. The self-leveling rear shocks went out like clockwork. The AWD coupler went out every 30k miles. And there were too many reports of engines needing to be replaced just on the other side of the 100k warranty.

Before the Telluride I had a 4Runner, and the only thing I didn't really like about the 4Runner was how low the roof was. I'd bought the 2005 4Runner for $9k in 2013 and sold it for $8k in 2020. Owning a car for $12/month will never happen in my lifetime again, but I was happy to come back to Toyota.

Outstanding picture! One of the two greatest film car chases, imo. The other, The 7-Ups.

I would 100% would get another and i'm at 16,000 miles
2025 Premium, Windchill Pearl, Java, HUD, Cool Box, Sway Bar Disco
  • Favorite thing.... Seating Position/Driver View/Headroom
  • Thing to change, Radio Volume knob Location (it only bothers my wife, not me)

-No OEM roof rack

-No cool box

-No dealer add-on oversized wheels/tires and associated hacking of other body components to fit them in.

OEM roof rack has shortcomings and is hard to work with. IMO, it more economical to get no roof rack and either A)enjoy the improved mileage/slightly quieter ride or B) purchase an aftermarket rack whose front/back aren't plastic, has equally spaced roof rails with all members present by default, and doesn't have angled sheet metal side covers.

I just don't use the cool box

It took me three months to dissect all the garbage the dealer did- mileage upon arrival was around 15.5 mpg, I now routinely am above 22. Mostly from reversing the crap they did, which did look cool.... at first.
What happened with the wheel situation? The dealer added cheap heavy aftermarket wheels? let me guess FUEL wheels?

I would buy the same Trail Dust premium edition but add the high air intake (snorkle). I would get Slee’s or a different aftermarket skid plate, nothing but OEM was really out there yet at my time of purchase. Otherwise the Icon +40mm offset wheels are perfect. Maybe I’d go with 17” and a 34” tire rather than 18” with 275’s.

I wish Toyota would put a larger fuel tank, larger rear diff, and better front CV’s like the GX gets but still wouldn’t trade my LC for the GX. I love the fact it has actual buttons for HVAC and does not depend on the infotainment center for such things.

my wife has a 2026 lexus Plug in Hybrid NX with a similar infotainment system, I do hate that set-up its almost identical to the GX550

Less cheap than heavy, ~95 lbs a corner. Method 321 w 295/70R18s LT E rated tires knock off 4-5mpg. Also great for off road. So now I have another set of eBay factory rims w/street tires. Convert for the situation. Biggest deal is that front lower inner fender plastic pieces have been removed to provide clearance for the larger wheel. I was led to believe it was a "dealer lift". They were right- it was just my wallet rather than the vehicle 😎

For my 2024 (relative to this thread) loves:
  • Cool box- always having a couple of cold waters available
  • Color- Heritage/Grayscape/Java
  • Looks/profile and driving all excellent

Mehs:
  • Electronic nannys, although I’ve pretty much got them muted/under control
  • Small gas tank- thinking about the Slee-sold upgrade
  • OEM Roof rack- crossbars in the garage, to be reinstalled if ever needed
  • 20” wheels - unwanted option on purchase, but they’re now my summer set with FE wheels and Terra Grappler 275/70/18s in the winter
  • Raised cargo floor- necessary but not ideal

Overall a big 👍

It’s so funny when they pass the same green Bug like 3-4 times. Greatest car chase movie of all time IMO.

I like mine in Heritage Blue, but it’s a color of the moment and I do wonder whether I’ll still like it in 5 years.

Silver and gray are either boring or timeless, depending on how you look at it.

I love the Blue/Grayscape color of Miss Daisy.. I just wish I could have found a FE with the Java leather. I guess I can fix that with KatSkinz later.

This is less something I would/could go back and change, and just one of those things I don't understand why Toyota did...

On my 2024 RAV4 Prime, you can keylessly unlock the car by pulling on any handle (front or back), and lock it by touching any handle. The LC only does this on the front doors (like my older 2018 RAV). I know adding that feature probably comes with some additional cost, and the LC is expensive enough. But it seems like a miss to make a convenience improvement like that, and then not put it on every vehicle you offer. In the mornings, I drop my backpack in the back seat, and I have to do this mildly annoying dance of grabbing the driver's door handle to unlock, then grab the back seat handle to put the backpack in, when in the RAV I just grab the back handle and it opens.

First world problem for sure, but just one of those head-scratchers from Toyota.
