Suggest a Dashcam?

I think I've narrowed my choices down to the Garmin Mini 2 and FitcamX. Where did you mount the cameras? Did you have any issues wiring the rear camera?

Front is below built in camera and back is top center of rear window. Keep in mind you need to have enough slack in the cable to accommodate the glass hatch opening vs the entire trunk. Not a huge deal but it needs a few more inches. Then I tucked rest into rubber around the top and side of the door and than ran it under cargo mat to back usb port on drivers side.

I have a garmin dash mini 2 that I have mounted behind the rear view mirror towards the passenger side. I learned from another thread about Dongar adapter, I’m putting that in tomorrow to reduce the cabling.

I asked the Service REP, and they confirmed that if you put an after-market Cam in the existing wires behind the rearview mirror (as shown in FitcamX ), it will void any warranty related to Electrical components. I have the Electrical warranty from the Dealer.

I recall the Dongar folks recommending using the cable for the dash cam instead of the mirror cable because the dealer might try to make a fuss about it otherwise. It's BS, but also since there's already a cable there to power a dash cam it makes sense to use that cable.

Well that's not great news. In the event something does happen they'll try to blame the camera installation to avoid paying to fix their problem.

How is installing an after market DashCam any different than installing the OEM DashCam that came with some of the early Land Cruisers??

True, do I void the warranty if I install the OEM dash cam versus taking it to the dealership. The existing wires are fuse protected and shouldn't be tied to any other electronics.

I just installed 2 Garmin Mini 2 cams, front and back. They can sync and when you record it will overlay the rear image onto the front image. I have the front connected to the OBD-II Port with their constant power cable, so once I turn off the LC it will keep recording for a set time or if the car gets bumped. The power cable has 3 time setting switch and you can fine tweak it even more in the Garmin App. I've had these running for a couple years in my last truck and finally got around to installing them into the LC. I was T boned at a 4 way stop about a year ago and even though it didn't capture the crash on the side it showed the other driver running the stop sign since I had both front and back recording.
