Looking to purchase, but have noticed that the SDM is not a common option on either the LC trim or the LC trim with PP. We do a fair amount of camping and take a lot of forest service roads, which are usually pretty well maintained. We'd like to have the option to take a path less travelled, but we would not be doing any true bolder climbing. I'm curious about the limits of the LC before SDM really becomes necessary. Thanks in advance!

You won’t need it. If you get to a washed out culvert and it’s that bad you’ll tell yourself, “I’m not putting my $70,000 vehicle through that”. That’s my theory. I have it and used it a couple times but I didn’t really have to use it I was just exercising it. Just like I do with all the bells and whistles a few times a year.

I really like it for a softer ride on chunkier forest roads, but it automatically re-connects when you hit 20mph. If it had been 25mph it would be perfect.

I will tell you this right now... there's something odd about the SDM right now with 2025s.

My 2025 premium came with it, with it not on the added options, and it was listed under standard equipment.

A lot of them are getting to lots with the SDM and it's not listed on standard equip or options, but when you see the vehicle, it shows the SDM button on the console...

People have reported not seeing it mentioned anywhere in the ad or on the window sticker and ending up with it anyways.

If you can find one on a site that has actual interior photographs of the vehicle at the dealer, you can see if it has the SDM by looking at the console, the units without will have a blank button right above the console cover.

I think it’s becoming one of those forced configurations like a lot of regions could only get premies with 20” rims for an extra $1250. Just another theory.

I'm one of those premies...... :\

I'm picking up a set of 5 wheels/tires off a friend's First Edition for $900 this week though, so the 20" rim's days are numbered.

I did the same, really like the look of the 18” fe’s and lc’s . Not so much the 58. Using the fe rims in the winter/ hunting season, 20’s in the summer.

Mine has a Manufacture date of 01/25, shows it as standard. /shrug
They changed it from standard to optional during the model year, so all earlier 2025 models have it as standard.

Most likely theory was that the SDM was a manufacturing choke point now that they need it for some 4Runner models as well. LC trim continues to be high in demand so they probably figured they could pump out more of them if they didn’t all have the SDM.

You got a sweet deal. What does that combo usually go for?

What plant was yours assembled? I just wonder if there is a difference between Tahara and the other plant.
