Roof rails.. better off?

thinking of taking off the factory roof rails. Anyone done this? Any upside?

Take off horizontal portion. (dealer can do it if you cant) Cuts the wind noise in half over 60.

Upsides? Smoother look, less drag, possibly less wind noise.

Can anyone post a quick set of tips on removing the OEM roof rails? I'm particularly interested in the initial steps on how to get the plastic covers off without breaking anything. I assume that once you get the covers off the rest is relatively intuitive. I also assume that the steps are...

Adding/removing roof rails

The 1958 doesn't come with roof rails, but the other 2 trims do. Is there a difference between the roofs on the 3 models? Can the roof rails (or roof rack on the FE) be removed without irreversible modifications? I don't have a use for roof rails/racks, and it definitely looks cleaner without...

If you find a 1958 owner wishing to add the rails, you might be able to swap for the needed pieces to delete your rails.

My 1958 loses the trim on the passenger side roof , thru the car wash. Easy fix it just snaps back into place. Maybe some Gorilla glue where it’s starts over the front windshield.

What parts are necessary just to remove crossbars?

Idk about the cross bars since I removed a roof rack, but i assume they mount to the same points.
If you want the “factory” setup after removing, there are plastic strips that cover the hole in the roof seams left by removing the roof attachment, some fittings they snap into, and some bolts. The fittings have weather sealing foam on them to keep water out of the bolt holes.
