Hi was looking to finally getting around to installing the rear camera for my Fitcamx and I was curious how did you all mount your rear facing dash cams.

I’m certain I don’t want to mount it on the rear glass.

Did you purchase a bracket or just drill into the plastic by the rear upper camera?

Why don't you want to mount it on the rear glass?
If you mount to the rear glass, you basicly eliminate your ability to use the glass hatch separately from the entire rear gate/hatch. I wasn't willing to make that sacrifice, as being able to open the glass hatch by itself is very convenient.

I don't have any problem using the rear glass. I just leave enough cable for it to open. I have it right below the factory camera with the cable routed through the window seal.

Just joined the forum today, when I see this post I thought I should share where I mount my FITCAMX Rear Camera.
Which I mounted right under factory rear camera, hope this helps.

Wow. This is excellent! I don't know how I didn't think of this, but then that's one of the reasons I joined this forum. Thank you sir!! Will be trying this setup tomorrow 😎

Just a friendly reminder, you can run the wire all the way through the roof line on passenger side without removing anything until you get to the rear mount area.

I already have my video cable routed, it was a bit of a bear to do as I had to remove the weather stripping in both passenger side doors, remove the grab handles on both passenger door area, and remove the passenger side trim peice over the rear passenger side window. I also had to be careful to make sure the cable was routed BEHIND all the air bags so as not to interfere with their deployment/function.

How did you route the cable without removing those things?

I insert the wire between the ceiling edge and plastic trim all the way through the roof line on passenger side, I just push the wire in with plastic trim removal stick. I've been using this method on most of my cars in last 10+ years, I thought it was a well known trick.
Maybe I should make separate thread about it.

I would like more info as I get ready to install mine.

here is how I did it.

Fair warning to everyone who will just run the wire under the trim without removing any panel pieces. You run the risk of the wire interfering with your side and curtain airbag deployment when you do it this way.

Well it’s in the ceiling not behind the plastic trim. You’re completely misunderstood.

I did a similar installation to this, though my cable is routed on the other side.

The only difference is that I ran the power cable up through the lift gate wiring harness, so when the hatch is open, you cannot see any cables.
