pricing of First Edition

It seems Toyota and dealers are expecting a significant brand premium for the LC250, and I feel isolated since I can see through the bs. I think it’s time for Toyota to offer up some facts and data on why we should be waiting for the new Land Cruiser.

Here is one example. I think it’s ridiculous Toyota can’t find a reliable electric water pump design to install on the LC250 so we can have a software controlled all electric cooling system that can be run at full capacity with the engine idling or off. An all electric cooling system would allow complete removal of the serpentine belt. This is the feature that initially got me so excited about the LC250.

There seems to be many compromises to accommodate the global architecture and bring the price down. I like a good value, but now we potentially have dealers asking over MSRP threatening to wipe out that product development investment in customer value.

I was in the Toyota Store on Thursday for the usual superior oil change / tire rotation. Most of the sales people there (Kalispell Toyota) seemed to be ok being treated like mushrooms by Toyota. No one knew anything about the 2024 Landcruiser nor did they seem to care. FWIW I am on their waiting list for the LC.

Yeah, pretty crazy how we know more than they do. I'm first in line on the waiting list for a small dealer just outside of Calgary. He told me a couple months ago they were expecting to see that vehicle to start around $65k Canadian, which is about exactly what I expect. For many of their vehicles, you take the US price, add 20% and that'sabout where they land up here. Which is why most dealers require a signed contract with buyers prohibiting sale into the US in the first year. With the dollar exchange being ~ 35% that would be a smokin' deal for you guys!

I’m always amazed, but perhaps consistently thankful, that exchange rate isn’t a good predictor of what our pricing will be based off US pricing. They price it with what hte market will bear, but that does mean our cars wind up being comparatively cheaper here.

The 1958 instrument cluster, I am hoping will meet all our needs. Like I need to have a battery condition digital meter. When the LC does not start, it is too heavy to be moved to where jumper cables can reach the dead battery. I am also hoping that Toyota engineers are aware of this forum, and that they will incorporate ideas being presented here by hard core off roaders, SUV enthusiasts and all others needing accessible trunks, while driving. Please make it the best experience that we ever had owning an LC.

I think Nuke Moderator and Ice Cold North are talking logic. If First Edition is not at 55 grand, no use dying for it, when Lexus, at higher price will be worth that higher price. Toyota should make more First Editions, drop 1958s, and ask /force each dealership to maintain an honest and open waiting list.
Current Toyota policy is not healthy. Marketing guys need to make a healthy, hopeful and promising plan. Frustration will drive many of us out of this marketing debacle.

First edition will almost certainly not be 55K, Toyota has said "starts in mid 50K range" so that means the base 1958 model be 55k. I would guess the FE comes in somewhere between 65-70K

Hi fellows, My guess about the price of FE was based on the following facts: 1)Toyota wants to sell 5000 First Editions in first 3 months
2)not everyone buys an SUV. Then 5 seater SUVs have crowded the market
3)If you wait a few months, you save 25 Grand. For exact same engine, exact same transmission and exact same length of SUV and exact same 5 seats The sales target of 5000 in first 3 months does not seem realistic. Unless price is 55 G. Only then it will be wiped out.

Yeah, the First Edition isn't a great value at 109K USD. That crosses into LX 600 territory here.

I will say that Europe perceives Toyota as a premium vehicle which probably justifies the pricing strategy.

I checked again, sales tax in Belgium is 21% 1 Euro = 1.09 USD. Thus prices are between 76k - 89k USD (without tax).

All 5000 of those will be sold before they hit the ground at 60-65K. The only ones that will sit around are at dealers with 10-20K ADM. What do you mean by "...wait a few months...save 25 Grand", do you think these things are eventually going to sell for $30K?

A price of 30K is out of question for a new Landcruiser. Maybe he means that instead of bidding for an FE with dealer markup which can land close to 80k it is better to wait for a 1958 with no markup at 55k.

I also took OP as meaning "25k over 55k base". With that said, no idea where the $80k assumption is coming from - as if it's either 55k, or it's 80k w/ no in-between. There's plenty of reasonable First Edition MSRP estimates between 55k and 80k. Could OP be including ADM? I'd assume ADM will be a factor in nearly all FEs so that will be the huge variable but still - that didn't stop all the Bronco First Editions from selling out at 7,000 production numbers, at $65k MSRP, with an additional mark-up. I'm thinking Land Cruisers will sell even faster. Also, not sure why Toyota would need to sell all FEs in the first three months as if having lower trims around will dig into the special edition sales? I mean, couldn't there be an argument as to why any OEM would ever offer lower trims at all because the lower trims would eat into the higher trim sales? Just not sure I understand that one.
