is there a way to disconnect the two smaller always-on liftgate lights? i'd prefer not to drain the battery if i can install one of these.
See @EOD Guy build Page. You need to install a switch. Personally, I installed a timer
but the more flexible option is EOD'S solution
t's a pretty simple process to unplug the hatch lights. They "Y" into a single connector and that is easily unplugged.

** Updated post after my final install **
INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION
- This install assumes you have a power tailgate
- Pop off the existing tailgate control in the bottom right side of the tailgate with provided soft trim tool
- Pop off the tailgate handle on the bottom of tailgate - left side of the tailgate latch
- Remove existing switches from tailgate control (& the water protector over the switches) install them in new left side light housing/finisher - don’t install light yet
- ** Next steps depend on LC tailgate lighting **
- With NO tailgate lighting - you need to follow video & run new harness extension wiring behind tailgate finisher, fish it through the wiring weather seal on top of tailgate opening & down to behind the jack cover area. You’ll connect the extension dual-head harness to the existing LED cargo pinlight & it’s power source.
- With LC w/ single LED tailgate light, or w/ 2026+ Premium dual LED tailgate lights -
- Pull tailgate interior finisher loose.
- Find a LED light housing, & select the red/black 2-wire providing power - red is +, black is -.
- Cut the harness, strip ends & prepare to splice.
- Take the power side of the new light harness & cut the extension connection plug off.
- Strip & connect that harnesses red/black wires to same color on vehicle LED light harness with the power side. I used butt connectors that had heat shrink to put the three wires together, and wrapped w/cloth electrical tape.
- ****Recommend upgrading fuse. Mine was on lower drivers side of tailgate in fuse holder. OE fuse was 1A & replaced w/ 5A AGC, fuse holder is common opaque clear plastic that snaps around fuse.
- Now you have power
- Fish wiring harness from right side round latch to the left side handle opening
- Install new left side light fixture into left side opening connecting harness you used for the power connection.
- Connect new sub harness into existing right side power connector, & connect your vehicles two existing switches into appropriate plugs - install fixture. Make sure to replace the water cover that goes over original power tailgate switches. It won’t snap back, so trim/modify for a smooth fit & wrap w/ electrical tape.
- Replace the finishers you removed
- New tailgate LED lights come on when tailgate opens, turn off when tailgate is closed.
- When you open the tailgate the default color comes on as red light.
- Once tailgate is open, the new drivers side outer switch selects colors from Whie, Red, or Off. Mine always default each opening to the red color.
- The drivers side inner switch manually turns on the emergency yellow/white strobes.
- Noticed the backlighting on the new aftermarket switches on drivers side are little brighter than OE stock switches on passenger side.

I tried to order this kit from Ali Express, but they sent me the kit for a 300 series. I assumed that you could just plug into the OEM liftgate button with the plugs they sent in the kit.
Sorry to hear. Several different kits around. My dual light kit on the bottom of the tailgate came off Amazon.
The 26 model has a accy dual tailgate light option that was on my LC. I think earlier versions had a single light, or none at an all. I added these type lights on a ‘23 Sequoia that didn’t have a tailgate light & it was easy.
The LC project on the ‘26 was more involved…
