OTT tune now available for the LC250

Let's face it, MANY 2.0Ts are 270-300HP. AMG has 2.0TT that are 400-469HP! so the 2.4t is relatively unstressed at ~270-278? HP typical of all Toyota powerplants. Instead of a 300K motor, you will probably have a 200K motor before rebuilds now.

I will wait and see people comment on efficiency changes before I touch it. I avoided older Larger Toyotas because their V8s were terribly inefficient and 4 Runners had archaic 5 speeds etc. I am already enjoying a potentially 21mpg plus LC. If after the tune makes it becomes ever more boost happy, those numbers will plummet. We already see huge discrepancies in mileage between folks that have mastered the skills of new era hybrids v those that obviously have not. The line about power to merge was very amusing...this is NOT slow even stock and plenty capable of getting the job done unless you are a pedal stabber that can't feel linear power delivery, so diesel like. I see these same comments on many of my forums with new 2.0T heavily boosted motors where everyone complains about lag, etc when all it really requires is 0.5 sec better anticipation.
I am with you on this. I know from past tuning on my Subaru's that tunes can damage components pretty badly. An off the shelf tune scares me for any forced induction motor. A lot can go wrong with that increased compression, throw in some bad timing with the hybrid motor I can just see something going wrong.
But having been in Subie world with the original STi back in 2004, Cobb Stage 2 was the sweet spot and with an open exhaust 360/390 was VERY reliable but everyone tried to push the motor over 400hp and that quickly killed them!! They also tried to treat their WRX like an STi....very different internals esp in the early days.

I beat the ever loving hell out of my Cobb Stage 2 Hawkeye STi-probably 200+ HARD track days at fast tracks. Never gave me ANY trouble. Then I went and did the GT35r, blah blah blah. Fast as hell but I had more fun on the stage 2.

I feel the same way. The only time I want more acceleration is on a few Interstate entrances that are on a fairly steep incline, but want is the key word, not need.

The transmission remapping is what is intriguing to me. There are some roads where in normal mode, the tranny just keeps it in the wrong gear, switch to sport mode actually smooths out and quiets the engine. Is dropping $600 worth it vs reaching down, probably not. lol.

But, at least LC owners have options, and that is a good thing.
 
I will have to try the sport mode next time I take it on a trip in the hilly section.......good observation. It upshifts and needs to RE-downshift on those grades v just holding the gear which will actually be more efficient than spool up, spool down, spool up.
 
I always use Sport mode in any hilly terrain (which is most of the time).

Even just cruising along at lower speeds on a flat road, Sport Mode seems to put it in a better gear, and the engine quiets down. I don't know why manufacturers won't let people lock it into a mode. At least we only have three settings, my F150 has a bunch and they are in the wrong order lol.

Normal somes behaves as when one was learning to drive a manual and was driving around in a gear that was too high.

The single best way to get efficiency is to keep rpms low. If you get smooth enough, motor will actually cut out on gentle downgrades whilst maintaining speed.Sporrt just keeps tranny in 6th gear a bunch more and that certainly DOES NOT help mileage. I will use sport mode only driving uphill sectors of my trip with constantly changing steepness which does indeed promote too much down and upshifting. In either sport or Normal mode WOT produces same result, full power. Eco does limit boost, thus reason for the less powerful pull.
I have now seen test results on base motors with regular v Premium. On premium, motor has much more than 325hp anyway..........closer to 374HP....how much is the tune really adding????????

The number comes from a Tacoma test. It was roughly 2sec off, give or take. Do I believe everything on the internet? Not really. Is it possibly with the trans remap and what not? I dunno. The LC is heavier and AWD, so I don't see getting that.

iirc, I did see one on the LC and it brought it more in line with GX550 performance.

The current Toyota ECU code is a closed secure system. The Toyota system is unlike GM, Ford, Audi or any other manufacturer. These vendors are not providing the same ‘tune’ as you may have pushed into another brand vehicle on a late model Toyota. Ask the ‘tuners’ to explain how they directly code a Toyota ECU.

This is not correct, signal interruptions and replacements as you call them are piggy back tunes with a wiring harness to said sensors going to the piggy back unit and then fed back to the OEM connector with a modified value determined by the piggy back control boards firmware which then goes to the OEM ECU.

The OTT is a tune installed via firmware written via OBDII port, there is no harness or aftermarket module used. The revised code is written into the OEM ECUs. This is exactly how Toyota does the same thing (for instance the new firmware for a larger tank on the Tundra), there are plenty of tuners out there that can and do write to Modern Toyota ECUs.

I can write Toyota firmware to the ECUs currently at home with my Laptop, GTS+ and the OBDII cable that matches Toyotas requirements for full connectivity to the vehicle. You get a security key each time you connect now via GTS+ but otherwise nothing has changed and when using independent software there is no such security key required. The ECUs are certainly not locked down and are virtually the same as any other manufacturer other than everyone uses different PIDs and there own unique code but its nothing a coder with mechanical & electronics knowledge worth their salt can't figure out.

Also there is nothing wrong with a quality piggy back tune, there are some drawbacks though. Unit typically lives in the Engine bay and can be subject to the heat, water and oils depending on where it lives, the additional connectors and wiring are all added failure points, the additional lengths of wire has a virtually an unmeasurable effect. Any piggy back used at OBDII port is snake oil IMO though.
 
Interesting, 180 degree perspective from what the Toyota TSM my dealer worked with said. He was very clear the original Toyota code is secure in place & can only be overwritten by them. The Tundra Toyota Performance Package reflash I had done was explained as not a few signals corrected, but a complete reflash of the entire powertrain & transmission ECUs profile including the necessary changes. Are you recoding the entire ECU, or just a line of code? If you guys have found a tune that’s able to change DTE & assign a larger fuel tank size I guess you have the keys to the castle. It would be cool if you could write that tune to make my larger fuel tank’s DTE work, but not for me at 10k miles on my Tundra, I’ll keep looking for way from Toyota. Not looking good so far for me.
Totally agree on our 2014 F150 I could adjust say the tire size parameters to correct the speedo. Are you able to correct that for larger tires on a Toyota? If you can that’s money!

I’m just sharing what Toyota told me directly, & you’re clearly saying I’m wrong. Simple question, can Toyota go in & see the change in the tune code pushed changing parameters? If someone loads a performance tune & then has a powertrain issue, takes the vehicle to Toyota where they use Consult to diagnose, do you expect your going to be covered under warranty?

I am 100% knowledgeable about Toyota tuning...Had 4 Lotus. 2ZZ and 2GRFE motors. Ours guys have cracked the code......but it took years

Dealers will ALWAYS say that. CYA. I knew our tuners by name after all these years.....and it was NOT a piggyback system. And yes, it can and will be read. Use at your own risk. They have ways of knowing about piggyback tunes as well......so for all you extended warranty lovers, don't mess with it, for those of us that look at warranties as toilet paper.....have at it if you really think it will enhance the experience...which it may esp if its really 50 HP...but we already suspect that is the differfence between 87 and 91 octane...and the tunes usually rely on 93...hmmmmmmaybe most of it is just the gas!

I would be most worried about the increase in PSI on the turbo from the tune, everything else is probably not a big deal.

You can, with the OTT, get various levels. I would just get the lowest level (which has a lower psi boost) if you were worried about longevity and were going to get a tune.

Yea… I mean, personally, I’d do what I can to reduce as much stress my power/drivetrain see, and improve cooling capacity/efficiency.

I've had a tune on my Tundra for 14 years and 150k and still going strong. Also have a tune on the Volvo for 17 years and 180k, this one is a 5 cylinder turbo and it's still going strong (double the factory boost +70 HP/+ 100 lbft. TQ).

Both essentially had tunes since just after break-in period, only thing I've replaced on both is injectors, coil packs and plugs which are all standard maintenance items.
 
Seen as you are WOT /full boost less than 1% of the time..........biggest issue would be a track car at WOT 50+% of the time. Eq would be towing at max payload daily.....
