only getting 16-17 mpg!

My MPG varies a lot

8 mpg: cold engine, 1 mile through residential streets with lots of stops
14mpg: back home but engine is a bit warmer now
16mpg: interstate at 85mph, windy
17-18mpg: around town but a bit longer drives, like a 15 minute drive to Costco
20mpg: out on a two-lane highway for a nice long drive
22mpg: same but it’s slightly downhill overall
55mpg: down the mountain

My Fuelly average is 17.4. Best tank was 22.4 (road trip) and worst was 15.4 (only short city drives)

… your mileage may vary …

16.64 MPG. Been tracking it since June in old school way of noting miles and how much gas pumped into tanks. Best tank was 21.34 gallons, but the reading before was 14.56 (anomaly).

I'd call expected MPGs on this vehicle to be fraudulent. Surprised nobody has done a class-action lawsuit on them. It's not even close.
I don't want to be a basher, but the EPA numbers are fraudulent and no where close. We recently purchased a Mazda CX90 and it actually gets better than EPA posted MPG. Would I trade my Land Cruiser for my wife's CX90, umm no.

Some of you guys are dead set on paying lawyers for nothing in return. A class action lawsuit has zero chance of winning for not matching EPA testing.

I’ve got 1400 miles on mine driving the hills of upstate NY. In normal mode, I’m getting 14.5 typically and not being heavy on the pedal. Between that, the tiny gas tank, and the constant sensor blocked flashing I get with driving in the snow, I’m not very pleased so far.

My quad cab GMC Sierra got better fuel economy and a much longer range.

I’ll keep it at least until the end of summer, but not in love so far.

I’m getting 20 to 21 mpg on factory 20” wheels and Michelin ice-x snow tires with probably not enough pressure in them and mostly interstate speeds, normal mode. Lots of up and down from sea level to about 12k ft. But also, there’s already a long and extensive thread on this.

Only getting 17mpg

Short answer: there’s a range but most people get around 21 mpg.

The estimates are frustratingly wrong but I think it is important to consider that this engine is predominantly about performance, not efficiency. There is a lot of low end torque, which is great for accelerating and for driving off-road but not for gas mileage. I know this will touch nerves for some members of this forum, but if you drive like a normal person and are considerate to other drivers you simply will not get the kind of mileage that's possible in closed-world testing.
Agreed

Getting 24+ mpg in local driving with at least 5 mins of warmup in the mornings.
I’ve got the mid trim with 20 inch wheels and drive in ECO mode.

Before anyone roasts me, yes I fill up my Land Cruiser with regular fuel. It’s a personal choice.

Blended 70/30 City and Highway I have been recording 14 L/100 Km which is approximately 17 mpg. I was hoping for slightly better.
You're talking Lower Mainland highway though, right? if so, your highway is drastically different than my highway (much less steady speed). I don't have mine yet, but will be interested to see how it goes. May have to wait for spring for meaningful numbers though.

Won't be me, but it wouldn't surprise me as litigious as this world is.

Expectation of 22-25 (23 avg) and getting 15-18 (Avg 16/17) is a big difference. We're talking about a 25%-30% overstatement in MPG of estimate versus actual.

I've never seen anything like this on any vehicle I've ever owned. Not even close.

There are people who can get posted MPGs.

I am sorry others are not getting what they expected. However, I am very happy with the gas mileage so far particularly when compared to other SUVs I have owned recently (Porsche, Volvo, Acura, Jeep). The LC is easily getting about 5 MPG better than those.

WIthout too much driving behavior management, I am consistently getting within the EPA ratings for mixed suburban driving. I think the trick is to not let the engine go over 2K RPMs. The beauty of the hybrid is the battery torque can be leveraged so you can still move relatively quickly and efficiently without too many compromises.

Now, I agree the size of the gas tank is a legitimate issue although other than the US brands, most other vendors also seem to be targeting a roughly 350 mile range capacity and you don't get a full size spare.

Must be goldilocks scenario. I'm guessing all the hardware on a FE (roof rack, skids, etc.), may make it worse, but I'm not touching 17MPG under any circumstances.

Just disappointing to come from a V6 that got 22-24 (Discovery) and a V8 LR4 that got 20+ to a vehicle that barely scratches 18. When you hear hybrid, you certainly don't think it's going to be this abysmal.

I have an FE with roof rack, skids, normal mode, etc., averaging 24. Not a goldilocks scenario, many get it, many don't. The hybrid motor, as others have said, is less about efficiency and more about immediate power.

Except for the fact that a class action would mostly likely be contingent fee based, this is absolutely true. As inaccurate as the EPA estimates are for those who drive their 250's like a normal person (read, not driving it to seek the best possible MPG [that's what Priuses are for]), there is zero case here.

At about 4000 miles now I'm usually somewhere around 21-22 mpg in normal mode, 20" wheels, 275 Michelin X-ice snow tires which are higher rolling resistance than stock, and a fair amount of driving over mountains. More if I'm driving local highways at 55-65. I'm not doing anything special in how I drive vs. my FJ. I put a log on my build thread since I'll be interested to see how it changes when I put on AT tires. Short around town trips are for sure much lower, as low as 10 MPG, but longer trips I'm only slightly down from the window sticker estimate, to my surprise.

2024 FE LC with 2100 miles. Owned for 3 months.

I have KO3’S 275 R 18’s. I never drove it with the stock tires.

On some individual trips the best I have gotten is 17.5 mpg. My average is between 15- 16.5 MPG.

50 PERCENT HIWAY AND 50 PERCENT NON HIWAY.

I do not drive crazy fast and I use cruise control on the Hiway at 72-75 mph.

Terrain is somewhat hilly, but not like being in western Colorado or parts of Utah.

To me I feel like the 18 gallon fuel tank is a big miss and I feel I should be getting at least 20 mpg for the way I drive. And I have it in Eco Mode.

I have owned 3 Ford Raptors and they get the same MPG’s as the LC. I spent 1/2 day in a Raptor R and it averaged 14 MPG.

My girlfriend drives a LX 600 that I have driven a lot with 17,000 miles and it averages 17-18 in mixed driving, in the summertime I have averaged 20 mpg in the LX. The LX is 410 hp and 480 ft/lbs of torque with a 21 gallon tank capacity.

I love the LC, but the MPG and fuel tank size is a big MISS !

For those wanting to sue, have you even bothered to drive the LC in strict accordance with the EPA City test loop? If you did, you’d likely achieve the rated figure. You’d also likely been shot by one of the many persons that you’d have angered with your excessively-gradual acceleration & deceleration during such loop. But that’s OK, you can still sue someone (but not Toyota). 😉

I agree with you , the class action lawsuit is stupid, it will go nowhere. Just like the class action lawsuit that has been filed against Toyota for the Tundras 2024-2025 and the hybrid Tundras that have no issues and people are trying to sue them for stupid reasons ! Lawyers are Toxic !

FWIW, in my very limited testing, I got lower mpg in eco mode than normal mode . . .
