NEED TO SELL MY 2025 LC 1958

I sold a vehicle to Carmax a few years ago and it was a great experience. Beat the local dealers by nearly $10k on a $80k car, and were fast and zero pressure. They give you an offer in writing and then basically walk away saying “call us if you want the deal, no prob if not.” Less than I would have gotten on private sell by also way faster and easier.

Definitely start with Carvana aa they will give you a price that’s good for 7 days. From there, Carmax is the next good step. Dealers will really lowball you unless you’re trading in and buying something else from them.

You won’t get any money for the things you’ve added. Remove and sell separately anything you can.

Back post COVID, those folks were paying big money but not doing so great recently from what I read and their offers have dropped a lot.

Fellow members... I have a 2025 LC model 1958 I bought used with 1,000 miles . Currently has 5000. Paid 58 K Dls . I added the following :

1. 8 year extended warranty from toyota. Worth 4,000 Dlls.
2. Running boards. 600 Dls
3. New BF Goodrich tires . 1,300 Dls
My question to all of you...
Due to personal medical issues. I would not be able to drive soon, and I will be forced to sell my LC against my will.
I have never done this. I need your opinions and all of them will be greatly appreciated.

Should I go to a dealer and sell it or sell it my self. If a sell it my self, any recommendations?. If a sell it to a dealer... any ideas who?...
I live in San Diego CA and these vehicles are very hot. Selling around the 60's.
Thanks

Try AutoNation and CarMax, they are pretty aggressive. I’ve been in the car business for a long time, and I have sold to both of these companies, and have no connection to either. You should cancel your service contract, if you bought that recently, you will get a significant refund amount.

why "Dls" instead of "$"?
good point $!
A dealer is rarely a good option unless you trade it in for a new vehicle.
Private sale usually gets you the most money but be careful with scammers. Make sure that the payment is done with a cashier check and preferably verify with the emitting bank that the check is real. Or ask for cash. Carry out the transaction in a safe place. Whenever I sold something of value (a car and a boat) to a private seller, I asked for cash payment and we did the transaction inside my bank branch office. That way I immediately deposit the money into my account so I didn't have to carry the cash around.
You can also try Carvana. Get a free offer and if the offer is good, that's the easiest way for you. They will come to pick up the car and transfer the money to your account. No hassle.
Thank you all for your inputs...

"$" symbol us used for US dollars, Canadian dollars and Mexica pesos. It was actually used for Mexican pesos before US "stole" the idea.
Interesting...

Dealerships are not in the business to buy vehicles. Walk into one and ask if they would like to purchase your vehicle and they will LOW LOW ball you for sure. The mods you did are lost, I doubt you’ll recoup any of that coin. Same goes for the warranty unless you find someone really anxious to purchase a used vehicle for the price of a new one.
Thanks...

Check the extended warranty information to see if you can call and cancel to be refunded. They may send the refund to the bank or cut you a check. You should check out Carvana, they are usually pretty good with their prices.
FYI. I did check with Carvena... They offer me $46,000. I did call them and let them know about the additional features, and said they don't consider those to increase the value. I will go to the rest of the websites you suggested... I'll keep you posted.

My method would go as follows:

Pop on to an auto site like autotempest.com. Find comparables within 100 miles to your 1958 with mileage up to 10k. If you need to move it, be lowest asking price, period (excluding vehicles with title issues liek accidents). Mods may get an additional $500 but will most likely be a loss unless you remove them and sell separately. Take into consideration that the meteor shower color will be slightly more desirable than an ice cap or black variant, you may have a little leverage in the color.

As Lunar Cruiser said, call the dealer and ask to be refunded out of the existing warranty coverage. If it's a Toyota Vehicle Service Agreement, they should be able to offer a prorated refund (It probably won't be that great).

AKatekebo has good advice on the transaction method, I did a similar method with a vehicle I sold last year.

If you don't want to deal with private buyers. Carmax, Carvana, Echopark seem to be the best for "writing a check" on the spot. I have never tried to sell to a new car dealer but suspect it would be a last ditch effort.

If you post on FB marketplace, be sure to be super inquisitive about specifics from the buyer. I prefer to meet at public locations, police precincts are a good option and some even have an area where online sellers can meet up in a "safe zone".

Watch them at all times, especially under the hood.
If you aren't feeling the buyer, leave.
If they are pushy or rushing the transaction, leave.
Honestly though, I've been able to get a pretty good feeling about a buyer before the meetup. The LC is kind of an enthusiasts vehicle so I would expect someone very excited and very interested with a ton of questions. If they are indifferent or impartial to the specifics, I'd be surprised and cautious.

Good luck and get well.

*Edit: The warranty may be a value-add for the new buyer and should be transferable if it is a Toyota VSA. You may want to hold-off on canceling the the warranty if selling privately.

If you sell to a commercial car dealer, I'd plan on canceling the warranty through a toyota dealer.
I am an old guy, 73. Definitely I will sell it to a respectable dealer or company. Thanks.

Exactly. The insurance industry and Pharmaceutical industries are the top two Pac contributors to politicians....THAT IS THE PROBLEM...............1 down, several to go....................
Exactly. My Hospital bill was $60,000.00 .. and still creeping up.

I’ve bought and sold many vehicles and honestly, there’s safe transactions, there’s quick transactions, and there’s maximum profit/money back transactions. Rarely are all three combined.

Autotrader, Craigslist, and Facebook marketplace are rife with scammers and hard to spot scams to part you with your vehicle, money, or both. I listed a nice mustang for my daughter on Autotrader. Literally every email and call I received was a scam and it wasn’t worth the effort. I ended selling to a dealer. Autotrader didn’t moderate the emails and many were unsafe “meet me at this sketchy location” that an uninformed person might fall for.

Selling to a dealer is safer and straightforward but you won’t maximize your vehicle’s value. They are in the power position and they take every advantage. Your calculus here is that you are ok with some loss in exchange for a safe and quick transaction.

I sold my last vehicle to carvana. It was quick and convenient and offered a few thousand more than dealers of the same make. Neither the dealers nor Carvana cared about or offered more for the very expensive upgrade options the vehicle had. Of course, they account for each one on their sale ad.

I could have probably sold it for a couple of thousand more to the right buyer, but quick and safe won out for me.

If I was in your situation, I would cut bait and sell to either carvana or a dealer, whichever offered more. I would sell the add on items on a forum like this one.

If your warranty is from Toyota, you can cancel it and they will send you a check.

Sorry for your medical troubles and best of luck with your sale.

No Toyota LC discount or rebates in my region, northern California so value should be as strong as it can be on the west coast.
Good input. Thank you.

Thank you to all of you. I much appreciate your input.

Carfax quote est will send you data to others.

Carvana will offer more.

Thanks. I will consider your input.

I do hope this works out favorably for you. I've paid a 6 figure medical bill for a family member and it's a brutal set-back for sure.

I know. I am trying to get some financial help, but, in California if you make more that $60,000.00 , do not qualify. In California, 60 thousand dollars is poverty line!. A person has to make more than 100 thousand to be considered middle class. Ridiculous!

Can't hurt to list it here. Hounds like it has many of the things people want freshly done.
At least list all the extra parts.

Good luck with the healing process. healthcare. Ironic that the idiots on the left want to save things yet they are the cause of the nightmare called Obamacare. The idiots on the right could have gotten rid of it but a now dead senator , in a spiteful moment, voted to keep Obamacare. Classic political FUBAR. Now we all suffer watching our premiums quadruple, our benefits drop, and record profits in the health insurance industry. If it sounds dirty....IT IS!!!
