LC250 vs. Ford Bronco off-road

The true test for me would be 6-7 years down the road when you start approaching the 150,000 mile marker. Ford has come a long way since the ‘80s escorts, but how is that 4 cylinder gonna hold up pushing 35’s? How much coin will be invested in repairs for either vehicle? I think the chances of that removeable top leaking after 5 years is probably better than average. I really like the look of the bronco, I drove one for a couple hours, felt like a lunch box on wheels imho. But yeah, bronco is sure to be more capable off road.

Boy have I underestimated the delusion level of our fellow Prada Landcruiser owners. There is absolutely no comparison between lc250 and Bronco raptor offroad and Onroad. Sure Landcruiser will hold its own the same way a propeller plane holds its own against a f35. I mean come on guys please make this stop. This is getting embarrassing . The Bronco raptor can be had for mid 70s after discounts.
I’ve had both the badlands and the Bronco raptor and the only place they fall short of lc250 is cabin noise due to the stupid removable top that never gets removed . Other than that they the bronco raptor rides far better than lc, much more stout power train and let’s not even get started on offroad spec

  • Engine: 3.0L EcoBoost V6 with 418 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque.

  • Suspension: High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) 4.0 with FOX Live Valve 3.1 Internal Bypass Semi-Active Dampers. This system is designed for high-speed desert running and provides significant wheel travel (13 inches in the front).

  • Tires: Standard 37-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain K02 tires on beadlock-capable wheels.

  • Drivetrain: Advanced 4x4 system with a two-speed transfer case and a 3.06 4x4 LO ratio for an impressive 67.7:1 crawl ratio. It also features electronic-locking front and rear axles.
  • Off-road Angles:
    • Approach Angle: 47.2°
    • Breakover Angle: 30.8°
    • Departure Angle: 40.5°
  • Ground Clearance: 13.1 inches.

  • Other Features: Heavy-duty modular front bumper, steel bash plates, and various G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) modes, including Baja and Rock Crawl.

Our resident contrarian has arrived, armed to the teeth with GPT research.

I've always been surprised how skinny some of the mechanicals are on the Bronco. For example, compare these LCAs:

I think the 250 would be more durable overall. If I had to drive around in remote parts of the world, I'd be taking the 250 for sure.

Most of the world would agree with you: a Toyota truck will be far superior to a Ford in those situations where it matters most.

There's a reason almost every photo and video you see of wars in far flung third world countries have Toyotas (and some times Mitsubishis and Mercedes) running all over the place and not Fords.

Most of the places the Bronco shines are places that people take vehicles recreationally. If you have to take manpower, equipment, and supplies to those places, you do it on foot or with pack animals (or fly over it if you can).

Outside of those areas the Toyota is no less capable and far more reliable.

So better is very subjective.

The bronco could climb Everest in 2wd and i’m still not taking it for free. And did someone here list an ecoboost in a ‘plus’ column

I believe most of us were talking about the Bronco not the Bronco raptor. The Raptor is in a completely different league off-road wise and is not a fair comparison..

Badland's Bronco (before they added the upgraded suspension package and upgraded steering rack) against the LC the Badlands is the superior off-roader because of the tire size, front locker, and, depending upon body style, shorter wheel base. However, the LC is still extremely capable and will get to 90% of the places the badlands would....the last 10%...you're probably going to be breaking pieces off of either vehicle while getting there.

Where the LC is vastly superior - day to day drivability and comfort which is where 99% of usage will be for both vehicles when new.
