Both ball joints go on the inside. Also, try having the thinner end facing up. Give it a shot!

Ok, made the recommended changes..rod end up and ball joint inserted from inside of the brackets. Definitely made closing the hood smoother, no felt compression at the last inch of closing. And the opening does not pop nearly as hard. The binding that was felt is no longer. Seems to have resolved the issues. Thank you.
I took photos of the angle of the gas struts with the hood full open and nearly closed, is this typical?

Both top and bottom are ball joints, so installing it this way won't affect its use.
@plomor_mods do you have an estimate on when your revised bug screen design for the U.S. LC will be available?

In your photo, the lower screen is shown upside down, correct? The unscreened notch for the camera is on the bottom on the vehicle. See posts #14 and #15 above.

I just received the new version of the Plomor bug screens for the Land Cruiser 250. I understand that the design was changed to better fit U.S. models of the Land Cruiser. At first, I had some difficulty getting the lower screen positioned correctly. I was about to give up. But by reaching in and applying upward pressure on the bottom of the folded tabs about an inch in from the end of the tabs (not just pressing up on the end of the tabs), I was able to get the tabs seated properly and the screen inserted correctly.
I am very pleased with the installed bug screens. I had some rodent activity behind the bottom grill and am hoping these will help prevent that.
