LC250 Fobs are Trash

I keep the fob in my pocket and am able to operate mine with a push of the starter or touching the door handle. Seems simple to me. If I want to lock from a distance, I use the app, again no issues doing so. If you're trying to impress a woman by doing so, I would think the app on your phone would get more traction

Where are you getting this "impress a woman" stuff from?

If you want to lock from a distance you would rather pull your phone out, open an app, hold a button and then wait 10 seconds for your car to lock? You think that gets the ladies going?

How is it weird for people to want to be able to lock their $70,000 SUV from further than "touching the door handle." You've been able to do this from key fobs for two decades.

The fob for my 2016 4Runner worked from 100' away and I could remote start it with JUST the key from inside my office looking at the SUV 100' away.

I mean, anybody can just randomly throw an insult into a post that has nothing to do with it and just say "you mad bro?" Not a single person mentioned trying to impress anybody. But if that's why you bought the quasi-same vehicle 3 times, i'm proud of you for making that a bizarre reality.

But seeing as how there are quite a few replies from people with the same issues, I'm not exactly alone.

The fob has a "sleep" mode to save battery. When "awake", like when it's inside the car while driving, it continously "talks" with the car, and this drains the battery. Once outside the car and if left sufficiently far away so it doesn't
detect the car any more, the fob will go into "sleep" mode to conserve the battery. This means that it won't transmit and, for example, may not be detected when you approach the car and grab the handle. Normally, pushing any button on the fob will take it out of the "sleep" mode, but sometimes the button needs to be pushed more than once.
Another issue is interference. Fobs use 315 MHz frequency band which is also used by garage openers, gate remote controls, many home remote control devices and even TPMS. If your neighbor is clicking on a garage door opener (especially HomeLink), it may interfere with your fob. Garage openers use significantly higher power than car fobs.

This all makes sense, but of the 4 other cars I've owned with push-start, this is the only one with such an inconsistent experience. Even my wife's current Palisade keyfob is rock solid from 100', no intermittent inputs. I can stand in my living room at my key bowl, tap once and hear the Palisade beep at me, but have to pick up the LC fob and go to a window and hit it a few times.

I don't disagree with you that Toyota fobs are crap. Like many other things Toyota does.

I have the women open my vehicles for me. I refuse to touch door handles.

Yes, the range on Toyota FOBs is poor compared to others. I too have notice a change in range at times, most notably the other day. The range was further when it was raining and I sent my girlfriend out to the LC to fetch something.

Look at the bright side, Toyota finally gave up on the vehicle turning off when you opened the door. Yeah, they used to do that when you remote started them.

One of my main gripes is that you cannot lock the door with the fob w/ the vehicle running and walk away, you have to use the physical key. This is one of the most often used features with my F150, summer and winter, I want the HVAC going. I keep meaning to get spare physical key made (if possible) to keep on my fob.

I figure the dog crowd would be up in arms.

Yeah. Early remote start killing the vehicle when you opened the door was lame.

I don’t see why a locksmith couldn’t use the slim key in the fob to make a full-size physical key.

Last winter I could remote start with the FOB from inside the house - this winter, a couple of weeks ago it wouldn't & had to go outside and aim directly at the LC from about 20 feet away to get it to start (vehicle was coated in ice from freezing rain so needed some heat inside to get the ice more easily off & get the door open) so I changed the battery and still no luck from inside the house aiming at it from a window & then the other day it decided to work. No idea what's going on.

I have had no problems with my fob, and I now have 20,000 miles on the vehicle with no problems with the vehicle or the fob. Fob works remote with no problems, although the vehicle does not like for me to get out of the vehicle with the engine running (it will beep for me to remember to turn of the engine). My iPhone Toyota remote app works fine as well (the weather here finally got cold enough for me to remote start it to heat up the car and engine). The seat and steering wheel heaters work great also!). All in all I have no complaints with my '24 1958 LC. The mileage is decent considering how much it weighs and the fact that it has the stock roof rack and side rails (a bit of added drag).

At first I thought the sound deadening I did in the front doors was causing the issue but even standing at my 2nd story window with the window open staring down into the windshield it still barely works.

My 5th gen 4Runner key could be used from 100’ away without issue.

Nothing like paying $70,000 for a vehicle for it to loudly beep at you when you walk away and try to lock it because the car thinks there’s a key still inside.

This happens with the fob my wife uses. She'll be driving and the dash will say a key isn't present.

I just climbed into my 25 Land Cruiser with my key fob in my pocket it did not recognize the key fob and my vehicle would not start. I replaced the battery in my key fob yesterday.

You all do realize they don't have a long range for a reason. They are trying to reduce the ability of people coming up to your house and using a fob scanner to unlock and steal you LC. I don't unlock my LC until I get up to it and the remote start app works just fine when I use it.

That’s potentially one element of the issue, but if you read the comments directly above yours you can see that people are having issues in the exact scenario you are suggesting the fob is designed for (co-located with or even inside the vehicle).
