LC 250 is a home run

It’s also standard hybrid behavior. I abhor the auto start/stop “feature” that a lot of ICE vehicles have these days, but the gas motor shutting off on a hybrid vehicle to allow it to run on battery power is completely different.

I have a feeling a lot of folks that complain about the engine shutting off when idling have never owned a hybrid vehicle.
To be fair I own a Prius Prime. The power train switch at least feels a lot smoother than LC250. On LC it feels quite raw. Even with Wrangler Plugin it still feels off a bit. I think on the truck the right way to do it is to use solid state that has density and output HP can match up with their 4-cylinder.

I went to the dealer looking for one and ended up with Heritage Blue on availability. I like the blue and it does draw compliments, but I still think Meteor might be the best color they have on offer. I wished they’d offered a light gray with low flake, like Incognito on Lexus.
Heritage Blue is super nice. I will say a base trim meteor is hard to find in my area. I ended up having to drive 2.5 hrs to get ours and we got lucky because someone backed out hours before so it became available. Dealer held it while we drive up and told us that two different buyers wanted to get it. We definitely lucked out!

I must say.. the more I see Meteor Shower out in the wild, the more I think I should have held out for one. I like the Underground, but I do think the MS is a great choice for the LC.
Almost as nice as the Desert Dune Metallic color which nicely hides glacial silt common in NW MT.

The Tow/Haul button is also the stop/start cancel button.

VW didn’t have a reputation of being uniquely environmentally friendly compared to other brands.
Huge brand with lots to lose. I don’t trust any of them on any subject.

While it could have been true, I’ve heard that closing pressure line from so many salesman to get you to commit at no discount that I immediately reply “ no problem, I’ll wait” and then I go grab a bite to eat.

I’ve never once had someone show up as they said and they are usually much more price flexible when I get back.

Cheating at that scale is a corporate culture thing. You can’t just infer and assume every other manufacturer suffers from the same mind rot.
I remember many companies were caught cheating the emission at different scales. I think cheating is a human nature and all is takes is a small team of of 3-4 people write a few hundreds line of code to deliver the “optimizations” their management requested. It doesn’t even have to be a corporate thing.

Toyota is a trustworthy company to me. But I will not assume uneven ethical practice won’t happen at Toyota.

My LC is getting better and better @8400 mi it's almost seamless, the drive line transitions have really improved.

If Toyota sacrificed reliability to cut costs, people would enevitably find out, and it would impact reputation/sales. It would be a deliberate move to rebrand. The VW emissions cheating was supposed to go undetected, indefinitely.

One thing is for sure, people around here know a lot more about powertrain technology than the engineers, PhDs, and designers working at the world’s second largest vehicle manufacturer. Whatever would we do otherwise.
Are you butt hurt again? Any hint of criticism about the 2.4L motor and you get triggered? Did you even watch the video? Even a high schooler in auto shop class can understand this.

Manufacturers across the board are having very difficult time engineering their engines to be more efficient and "clean" in order to meet CAFE standards. The lengths they go to have a direct negative effect on engine reliability and longevity. They are also more complicated, leading to additional costs.

There's already numerous TSB and class action lawsuits on the simple plastic coolant bypass valve (Toyota included). The one mentioned in the video is even more complex and is $1100 for the part plus labor. These types of valves didn't not exist on earlier engines. They just had a simple thermostat. Less efficient but way more reliable.

The only reason for low tension piston rings is more fuel efficiency. Downside is more blow-by (oil consumption), reduced engine life, especially in a forced induction motor.

The list goes on...

Isn’t the auto stop/start feature what causes fuel to find its way into the engine oil??🤔

They told us this after the fact. Had nothing to do with our decision

I almost purchased the black until I saw meteor shower, and had to have it! I love it!

I've done the same earlier oil change with mine which is 2.8 diesel and I found the oil will be cleaner after the first initial oil changes. I imagine with petrol engine, the oil should look relatively clean after 5K kms as compared to diesels with EGR, DPF & Adblue.
I did the same thing, first oil change at 1500 mi then at 7500 mi. Oil did not look bad at all.

I tend to blame it more on the extremely low viscosity oil used in modern engines, but what do I know?

The fact still remains, however, that's it's perfectly normal on hybrid vehicles for the gas engine to shutoff to allow the vehicle to run in battery-only mode to conserve fuel.

It will be better once Toyota fixes my brakes, currently on backorder for the TSB.
