LC 250 Hate = It’s REAL

If I told you the new Land Cruiser had a V8 that made 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. Would you call the engine small and tiny sounding?

As to it’s not a real Land Cruiser…. What does that even mean… ? What’s more important for off roading… HP or Torque? As to the new off road assistant systems. Pretty sure it has gotten a few off road newbies out of trouble.



200 Series (2008–2021): The Benchmark "Older" Land Cruiser

• Engine: 5.7L 3UR-FE V8
• Horsepower: 381 hp @ 5,600 rpm
• Torque: 401 lb-ft @ 3,600 rpm
• Notes: Paired with a 6- or 8-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4WD. This setup delivered strong low-end pull for off-roading and towing (up to 8,200 lbs), though fuel economy was modest at 13–17 mpg.

New Land Cruiser

• · Performance: 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and full-time 4WD with low-range gearing.
• · Fuel Economy: EPA-rated 22 mpg city / 25 mpg highway / 23 mpg combined— a big improvement over the prior V8's 13–17 mpg.

I don’t know about you but I’m lucky to get 19.5 mpg. Pretty sure the old V8 never made 17 mpg either.


So, your kinda right, this is not a “real” old Land Cruiser, It’s been reengineered… Better in a lot of ways, no so in others… Ie. Gas Tank and Interior storage… and lying about the Mpg.

Just enjoy the extra Torque and the lack of

That video just shows an idiot flogging a 250 and not as hard on the 200…. I didn’t see any “out performance”. There are many videos on YT that state the opposite. The 250 with disconnects still doesn’t beat the 200 on a ramp test. It does have better approach and w angles, so there’s that. O, and the 250s slower than the 200…. Yikes

I have both, and the 200 is better in every way, and my little To-KIA 250 will not be in the driveway as long as the 200… ;-)

Give it another year or so ... You got some gear heads that all they can mumble is "it should have a V8" or "I would never have a hybrid", blah blah blah. Not one has probably driven the new LC nor done any research to back up their "claims". FACT= I trust Toyota over any other brand out there and Ive had them all. Do you really think that Toyota is going to do anything to tarnish the almost 70 years of Land Cruiser heritage they've built up by cutting corners on this model? Nope. This vehicle is overbuilt and solid. I love the fact that it is currently quite unique and you don't see many (at least here in Wisconsin. Ive seen one in the past 3 months). But more importantly Land Cruisers owners don't have to justify their choice of vehicle to the non-believers- we have done the research and are confident this model is the best yet!

I think the hybrid system on this 250 sucks. Plan and simple. It’s solely there to make up for lack of engine size. No MPG performance whatsoever so ever. I’d take more engine and no hybrid any day.

Again, the hybrid is not designed to maximize mileage. It’s designed to deliver power at low RPMs and to minimize emissions.

Coming from a guy who has actually owned CJs, JKs, a JL, and still owns a final refresh TJ shorty… that’s just nonsense. A wise man once said “Much like you can’t have an intelligent conversation with a room full of idiots, you can’t inject common sense into an unreasonable conversation.” That person was my first Chief.

Interesting... I think the configurability of the wranglers infotainment and instrument cluster are better than the 250. But, with your vehicle history, yes the 250 dash is nicer. I mean, the CJ had no real dash, JK was trash, JLs were nicer, and the TJ ('06 Rubi, my favorite wrangler ever) was just hard plastic. I dislike the non-configurability or the limited configurability.

I guess everyone here with hurt feelings needs to love the vehicle they owe $$ on...

I am mostly a lurker here and having a blast reading through folk’s builds and even basic mods. I moved from a 2014 camry to the 26 LC premium. I think part of the issue with the gripes is from folks who change vehicles fairly often or those that get to ‘review’ every vehicle coming out. It really skews reviewer’s perspectives and what you read online. The climate control is an issue that I hope Toyota decides to resolve, but beyond that Iove everything about my LC and look forward to driving it off into the sunset.
