Land Cruiser Made in Hamura Plant, Not Tahara???

Yea that doesn’t look like any vin I’ve seen for lc

the Hino plant, denoted with an RK in the VIN, has been building FJ’s for decades. I’m heartened by how many of those I still see cruising around SoCal. Those cars haven’t been imported in 10 years.

I’m sure the Hino vs. Hamura plant thing will live large in our minds, but I think the difference in quality is statistically insignificant.

From what I gathered from the Automotive Press YT channel, ‘R’ in the 9th position represents the 2024 model year. ‘K’ denotes Hino/Hamura or ‘5’ is Tahara in the 10th position.

If any one can confirm or correct this info, please do so!

Yes not sure if it’s 9,10 or if it’s 10,11 but RK is hino and R5 is Tahara.

This is basically correct, although the R actually denotes the 2024 model year. From the Land Cruiser Heritage Museum:

You are correct. Based off of your info I searched our largest Toyota dealer and confirmed that info (to myself).

That explains it. Thank you! However, if I could have a preference, it would be made in the Tahara facility.

I agree and I had a choice of taking one on the lot built at Hino or waiting for another allocation built at Tahara. I choose to wait.

Agreed, however, viewed a recent AutomotivePress YouTube review re Tahara vs Hino, and on the vehicles reviewed the fit/finish from Hino edged out Tahara. However, admittedly it was not LC vs LC. Would wager the drive trains are all manufactured at the same plant, be it Tahara or Hino. Bottom line, both are quality-driven plants in Japan. In another comparison, he definitely preferred the GX550 over a LC. This is the way I would go if there were a Lexus dealer within striking distance.
