Vader,So, I’ve been averaging between 16-18mpg on the freeway since I got my LC about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t been driving with a heavy foot or even go faster than 70-75mph.
I’m not sure if it’s the lift kit, tires/rims, and roof rack, but should that even affect the fuel economy that much? Especially considering this is an inline 4cyl turbo hybrid, it’s pretty disappointing when specs show that I should be at 22/25mpg city/hwy. And I’m WELL below that lol.
Has anyone else here been under 20mpg with their fuel efficiency?
Are there any tune options to help fuel efficiency on these?
Thanks in advance, any and all help is appreciated![]()
I'm coming up on one year ownership of my 1958. Factory except for the roof rack. My experience is this:So, I’ve been averaging between 16-18mpg on the freeway since I got my LC about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t been driving with a heavy foot or even go faster than 70-75mph.

All I’ve done to a FE is wheels tires. 4th oil change at 15k is tomorrow. I use 93 octane and add Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube/Fuel Injector cleaner at every oil change and a few in between. About all of my mileage is stop and go in town and I average 22mpg. I think yours will improve in townSo, I’ve been averaging between 16-18mpg on the freeway since I got my LC about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t been driving with a heavy foot or even go faster than 70-75mph.

The Car Care Nut has a useful video on how to drive these rigs.I actually averaged 19.1-19.5 the last couple trips, but I got 18.6 today lol
My thoughts exactly .Lift, offroad tires, 70mph…….. in a rock crawler suv…… in the history of the world anything over 10 should be considered a miracle.
Most gas stations in my area only go up to 91. I usually get 91 anyway thoughAll I’ve done to a FE is wheels tires. 4th oil change at 15k is tomorrow. Welcome to the asylum shedkept."I bought my Land Cruiser for fuel economy, said no one."
Well shit haha according to your formula I’m doing pretty damn good cause I should be at 15.5mpg if that’s the case. The last few days I’ve been averaging between 18.6-19.5 so hopefully it gets better? Lol cool name btw, my K9’s name is OnyxI go by this formula for our rigs:
Lift, each inch is -0.5 mpg.
All-Terrain Offroad Tires: -1 mpg
Each inch diameter increase in tires: -1 mpg
Roof-rack: -1 ~ 2 mpg
each unit of 50lb increase in armor weight: -0.5 mpg.
And no... these are not scientifically measured.![]()
I’ll go 60, 65 max on the interstate. Above 55, Miss Daisy’s MPG drops like a rock.Oh I drive about 50 miles one way going to work, and I commute 5 days a week aside from leisurely drives. Going uphill isn’t too bad, I mean obviously you need more throttle but that’s just physics. But I can’t cruise under 55 on the major highways here when traffic flow is usually around 70-80
Mine has 20 tires and when driven very carefully gets 19 mpg in the city and 20 on highwaySo, I’ve been averaging between 16-18mpg on the freeway since I got my LC about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t been driving with a heavy foot or even go faster than 70-75mph.

But I can’t cruise under 55 on the major highways here when traffic flow is usually around 70-80Aside from aerodynamics, load, tires, etc, and also ignoring your own driving style (e.g.heavy foot vs hypermiler extraordinaire) there are a few things that I've learned really help with your fuel economy on this rig.
1. It LOVES to drive a lot. If you only drive 10 minutes twice a day, you will not get a good average fuel economy.
2. It takes 15 minutes to realize it is a hybrid, so never drive less than 15 minutes
3. It doesn't like to go fast, so keep it under 55mph
4. It doesn't like to go slow, so keep it above 30mph
5. It doesn't like to stop and start, so don't do those
6. It doesn't like the cold, so keep it above 45 degrees F
7. It doesn't like going up hill, so keep it flat or preferably downhill.
But really, all joking aside, the biggest thing from my experience is #1, the fuel economy is bad until it is "warmed up". I rarely have days where I drive a lot, so in general I have pretty poor gas mileage. Occasionally I've had busy days running errands and going back and forth to trailheads on a warm but not too hot spring day etc, and I catch a glimmer of those mythical mid 20s.
Here's my fuelly history. I don't think I'll keep this diary long term, but it's been kinda interesting for this first year.

Hybrid engines take some learning curve. I drove a Rav4 Prime (plug-in hybrid) for the last 4 years and it was nowhere close to the advertised mpg with my roofrack and all terrain tires. It is what it is. Smile per mile. Considering vehicles in the same class that's capable of doing the same things are most likely under 15mpg. I am content.Well shit haha according to your formula I’m doing pretty damn good cause I should be at 15.5mpg if that’s the case. You’ll also get honked at and/or flipped off on almost all expressways and freeways here in Cali if you only go 55 lolDrive @ 55mph for best fuel efficiency. Its very simple and applies to all cars.
Just rolled over 2k. Travelled 400 highway miles @75mph. Nitto tires 22mpg… I’ll take it!So, I’ve been averaging between 16-18mpg on the freeway since I got my LC about 2 weeks ago and I haven’t been driving with a heavy foot or even go faster than 70-75mph.
