I'm looking at installing a radio. I did find this helpful thread:

Has anybody done a built-in install? I guess I am more used to a DIN install - maybe somebody has already investigated this and can save me tearing my dash down. I'm OK to relocate my "VIEW" button.

I’m thinking about doing this and shoving a midland mtx275 behind that to make a clean install

This is what's behind that trim panel. Someone has installed a radio in the void behind the panel and ran the mic cord through the switch blank....... don't remember who it was or what radio they used.

Did you ever do this or what did you come up with? I recently though of doing the same thing and bought the Radioddity DB25g (due to it being compact). Looks like it should have enough room behind that center panel...its just short as the center clip is in the way. Stealing EOD Guy picture to circle the part. TBH don't want to cut it...i'm thinking of just installing a power switch then maybe mount it under the passenger glove box now. Can't come up with any other way for a clean OEM look.

I assume you can't slip the radio in due to the middle brace. You could remove the panel, lay the radio in the void or mount it while the panels off, then reinstall the panel. There is only one 10mm bolt and a lot of plastic fasteners holding that entire panel on.

The link for the video for install an amp but .........

I've got the MXT275 and just mounted it under the passenger seat splitting wiring off the jack in the center console. I carry the handset in the glovebox and plug it into a jack that I replaced the blank in the center panel.

That’s a good idea, but then I would lose access to the display screen.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize it had a screen. My solution probably isn't the best solution for that radio.
No worries at all! looking over other spots on the interior i might just opt out of hard wiring it. Keep it simple and pack it away when not in use. Maybe try to find a low profile case to mount it to the molle panel in the trunk.

If you're looking to hardwire it and hide the wires.......... I tapped into the center console, rear cigar lighter wires, which are ACCY. the upper trim panel, pulls right off and the lower (shoe) has one 10mm bolt. You could tap in there and run the wires to a 12v pig tail that ends up under the pass seat, for a semi perm solution. I don't know how big/heavy your radio is but it wouldn't be too difficult to fashion a 3 prong "Y" mount that would clip to the Pass side center consol pad. (disregard the storage pouch)

I've only so far seen ICOM that have a clean look (), but I think it's a faceplate. There is another guy easy to find "TrailRecon" - he has an instagram and youtube channel with details as well with ICOM installed in a 250. I'm going to put this on hold till after summer - I am too busy with prepping for another coast-to-coast.
