Not being in the know about where to go off roading in an area new to me, makes it tough. Your Avatar establishes you as a Macho off roading guy.
If you’re ever up in Portland area I’d love to show you some spots! You’ll be disappointed if you’re expecting a macho guy though
Edit to add, that motorcycle is a great way to scout spots too. Sometimes I’ll get on mine and go to a new area of the NF or BLM land and go scout roads, and when I see a spot that looks interesting for wheeling I’ll come back in the Land Cruiser.
You wouldn’t believe the stupid mischief I got into on my R1200’s, two up, and later solo, 20 years ago… Pushing 70 now, I am much less likely to go places that street bikes wouldn’t dare go. Oh man I hear ya. I’m still under forty (by months, I tell ya, months!) and I’m already throttling back (ha) on some of the stuff I like to do on the bike. I had a nasty spill up on Mt Hood once that broke my ankle, and it was a very challenging ride back, to put it mildly. I’ve never had a bike so nice as an R1200, a humble 411 Himalayan for me!
You can pick them up used now. Mid 2007 or newer is a good start. ADVrider.com is a good place to start. There are much more powerful 1200’s that followed, but you (me) really don’t need that much HP.. (though I know some will disagree with my opinion).
I’m a longtime member on ADVRider! I see you’re a WNC member, I was born and raised in Asheville (and am a member of the EBCI, right around the corner from you). Amazing road riding in that whole region, you’re not missing out much keeping it on the tarmac. I dream of cruising the parkway again.
