How quiet is it as a highway cruiser?

I find the Landcruiser relatively quiet. The hybrid and turbo results in the RPMs staying down around 1500 to 2000 almost entirely while on the highway. As a highway cruiser there are a few short comings.

  • Side view mirror vibrate at highway speeds.
  • The ride is good for a truck, but compared to a unibody SUV the ride is nowhere nearly as smooth.
  • I have the Michelin tires. I really doubt the A/T tires help noise and handling.
I found my left side mirror vibrates at highway speed but the right side seems fine. So I am wondering if it is something adjustable?

Not really adjustable but shimable. There is another thread on this very subject........

The pictures are from my Taco but I assume the LC mirrors are similar. There is a pin that holds the mirror to the base and there is a spring that keeps tension on the pin. You could add a shim to increase the tension.

I have noticed the mirror shaking more on the driver side as well (but not isolated to the driver side). I think a big part of it is while driving you are so much closer to the driver side you notice it more than when looking at the passenger side mirror.

Wind noise - yes but not too bad unless you're going over 80 then it becomes pronounced- i have no roof rack

Road noise- barely any/negligible with my stock yokos!

Engine noise - minimal, but also minimal power at high speeds :(

I agree with above. In general, I find it to be very quiet. The big exception is 80mph and up, the wind really starts to whip around.

Honestly I don't hear much at all. Maybe its because I'm used to a 15 year old car w/ 270k miles on it, but this is fairly quiet. I also listen to music when I drive, so that'll drown any noise out

There are other vehicles that are quieter but the Land Cruiser is quiet enough that noise is not a distraction.

Uk spec with the 2.8 litre diesel is fine - we don’t get the roof rack and so no noticeable wind noise up to 80/85 mph but with the speed cameras I tend to be sub 80 and the standard tyres are Goodyear Grandtrek AT23 which are pretty good for road noise

I read on hear about folk concerned about wind noise and mirror vibration but it’s not been an issue here and I have driven at motorway speeds and in winds up to 65 mph (we have had a few winter storms)

I’ve folded the mirrors in at speed (~80 mph) as a test. There is a minor decrease in noise but not what I thought. I think the basic dimensions of the vehicle are the primary factor. But it’s really no big deal.

If you want road noise, let’s go for a ride in my 991.1.

Miss Daisy is MUCH quieter than my prior ride, a 2015 long wheel base, extended body, tall roof 350 Ford Transit van. It was like being inside a bass drum driving that thing on the interstates.

That being said, there is an acceptable level of noise for the shape of this truck, moving through the air at interstate speeds.
