2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road
Just popping in here for an introduction. I'm currently in a 2022 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road Access Cab, but looking to get into a LC250 in 2027. Currently here for some research on trims, colors, options.

Former 3rd gen Tacoma owners, I'd love to hear from you about your experiences switching from the 3rd gen Tacoma to the LC250.

Just lurking for now, but I should be posting more in 2027 once I've made the jump.

Hey there, fellow Portlander here. Welcome! Good luck on the search and let us know if you have any specific questions. There are several members here who also own or owned a Tacoma so I bet you’ll get feedback on that comparison.

Hey, thanks! Do Portland owners have a preferred dealer in, or around Portland? Not sure if that's worth a separate thread.

Funny... I'm thinking about offloading my LC and going back to a Tacoma. Had a 2.5 gen but now want a 3rd gen DCSB TRD OR. I miss having a beater that I didn't care about.

Who you buy from doesn’t matter much, other than to the extent that you use it to establish a relationship with the service department. For sales, I highly recommend Lum’s out at the coast. For service, the best option I’ve found is Ron Tonkin Toyota, but it’s a low bar. Very low.

I wouldn’t recommend Toyota on Broadway for sales and definitely not service, but the guys at the parts counter are fantastic and a chill demeanor goes a long way to make the unavailable parts find their way into the available category.

Thanks for the info. Interestingly enough, I've exclusively been going to Toyota on Broadway for service after a bad service experience with Ron Tonkin Toyota (where I purchased the Tacoma). Broadway has been hit or miss for service so far, but I'm moving to another non-dealer shop soon. I'm out of warranty and need to save some cash while I still own the Tacoma.

My fav thing Broadway did on the 2nd service was telling me my brakes needed to be replaced soon. LOL. This was at 5k miles. Last time they said the power steering was leaking at the steering rack boot. Not sure what to do about that just yet, but not a fun fix.

I’m replacing hub bolts on my Land Cruiser this week because I made the mistake of letting the service center do a tire rotation. I do not have a high estimation of dealer service shops.

The Portland service department simply did not treat me with dignity, and as a bit of an old fashioned gent, I don’t do business with people who don’t treat me with dignity.

I have both: 2023 Tacoma and 25 LC. You’ll notice the instant torque difference, lighter steering, improved visibility with the taller windshield and significantly improved turning angles. LC drives more nimble than it looks. You’ll also notice the LC may feel more “choppy” with the transmission, but it doesn’t bother me. On gas, I’m doing about the same, around 20 mpg. Hope this helps.

I wasn't a Tacoma owner, but I've driven many and had a number of friends who had multiple Tacomas.

The LC is significantly more refined, rides better, and has loads more torque. Depending on the trim, it truly does carry a retro/vintage truck feel in a refined package. You'll likely hate the engine sound, but mine calmed down a lot after its first oil change. I personally really enjoy the hybrid both for the low end grunt/smoothness and the increased MPG. Steering feel is improved as is chassis balance. It feels slightly more delicate than the true old school unbreakable feel of the Tacoma. So far, I'm absolutely loving mine and think you will too!

Btw, there's almost no bad color combo and the 27 avoids a few issues the earlier ones had. Good luck!

Always have more than one vehicle around. Every household needs a beater truck around the stable for hauling, towing, and generally not caring too much about.

The Land Cruiser is the beater truck in my household!
