Great job Toyota . The new Kia telluride comes with higher ground clearance and better offroad tires, and the rear seats fold completely flat

One a separate note the palaside interior looks on par with 120k big Range Rover . What the hell are Lexus bmw merc doing

If you can't tell the difference between an electronically controlled AWD system with a multi-plate clutch they call a locking differential that requires an "auto disengage" protection mechanism to prevent it from burning up on the trail and a ful time 4x4 with a gear based Torsen differential and hardware lockers then buy the Telluride.

It has knobby looking tires.

Rather than leave the stock tires, I swapped them out. Would it have been nice if my Land Cruiser shipped with something better? I would have been all over that, but better is in the eye of the beholder. I suppose I could have done that upgrade at the dealer before delivery, but they don’t give much credit for take-off wheels/tires.

I have some thoughts on ride height- a couple of extra inches of ground clearance would have been nice.. I think I am going to sit back and watch what forum members continue to come up with before I pull the trigger on any kind of lift. Specifically, I am waiting to see someone swap TRD or Trailhunter suspension parts onto a Land Cruiser, see how that goes in terms of degree of lift and changes to ride quality.

The point? Many of the perceived shortcomings that go with Toyota bringing this vehicle to our market can be addressed. It is a functional vehicle right out of the showroom, one that can be fine tuned to an end user’s wants. There is already some aftermarket support, and if the vehicle’s sales numbers climb the aftermarket may follow suit if the market deems it profitable to do so. Fingers crossed.

Not sure why people bitch so much, if you like the Kia good luck to you, go and buy one. I buy Toyota for reliability because I don’t want to break down 2000km from nowhere. I’ve had them for the last 12 years without a problem.

TRD or Trailhunter Land Cruiser anyone?

I come from the Jeep world (reformed, or in the process of doing so). Much like a Land Cruiser, capable right out of the showroom. Jeeps are like a Lego set for adults- so many bolt on mods, weld on mods. The menu of aftermarket parts is endless, from crap to quality, mild to wild. You can get to a point that you build something so specialized that its on-road qualities suffer. The latest Jeeps seem to suffer even without mods.

I think a more capable factory stock Land Cruiser could be a welcome addition. Who knows- if there is a market and a profit with the global LC250/Prado platform, maybe they will. I wouldn’t blame Toyota for being flinchy on the subject based on sales figures for the previous full sized version. Beautiful truck, but not everyone could afford to buy one. Amongst potential customers who could, many were drawn to other large 4wd vehicles with more cachet. Conservative design specs seems to be selling globally at the moment with less risk (in economies that are subject to change at a moment’s notice).

Alright.
Didn't you sell your LC? I mean not everyone likes every vehicle. Its ok. I like my 250 a lot.

Again nobody is suggesting anyone should do trade in an lc for a Kia . My point is that even when Kia attempts to create something that remotely resembles an off-roader they understand the importance of ground clearance, flat folding rear seats and good tires but apparently both of these factors were overlooked by Toyota on a dual lock dual speed transfer case truck
I'm curious, did you buy one (LC250)? With all the shortcomings you listed? Also, what's wrong with the tires?

Our stock ground clearance numbers (on paper) may seem disappointing, but in practice it doesn't look to matter that much. I always come back to this video from TG, the Land Cruiser climbing out of the "bomb hole" (4 minute mark) is pretty impressive on stock clearance.

Manufacturers can claim any clearance they want, don't believe there is any standard/formal rule on how to measure. I believe Toyota does it from the lowest point which I'd guess would be our rear diff.

Yeah, that one inch of ground clearance didn't seem to bother the LC here.

I don't want to be a hater, but those wheels look awful, and that whole front end is just horrible looking. But maybe i'm turning into the old cranky man and don't like news things.

In other words, he's comparing a Toyota Landcruiser to a car.
Watch this instead. Enjoy and learn new things to inspire your LC life
I ignore all whining and BS ;)
Happy LC to all millions LC owners 😜
My LC is for SPG not MPG 😜

Yea, a unibody vehicle is toting its ground clearance and "continental" tires. I have never seen anybody running Continentals on the trail, especially with that little side wall to protect it. I'd say this more fits with an RAV4.

Stuff on TEMU looks great on screen, but once you actually get it, it's a different story.
Real luxury isn't about looks or "features". Luxury is about how the materials and components will hold after 10 or 20 years of use.
Hyundai & KIA are doing a great job with "redneck luxury", and appeal to people who can't make a difference between a Texas Roadhouse steak and Japanese wagyu beef, or a $12 bottle of wine from Trader Joe's and a $200 bottle of fine wine.

Comparing the Telluride and the LC is like comparing apple-to-oranges.
Putting off-road tires and lifting a car-loke unibody crossover with clutch-based AWD system doesn't make it an off-road vehicle. Just like putting a spoiler and low-profile racing tires on the LC won't make the LC a sports car, now matter how hard you try.

So if your ego is bruised regarding ground clearance, slap some 34's or 35's on it....nuff said there. Is anybody else here embarrassed? Would they even fit on the Kia?????
The seat design worked PERFECTLY for me recently hauling a VERY large Stressless section......without that drop in front area, it would not have fit.
I am thankful Toyota DID NOT subject me to AT/offroad tires btw. Stockers work great for my summer needs, and I have Michelin X Ice snows that go on next week. Not all of us are rock crawlers..many of us consider this our winter vehicle and snows will ALWAYS be superior to AT tires......esp on hardpack, icy roads. AT should be an option either factory installed or delivery dealer installed if it can screw up the assembly line that badly. But let the wheelhors do their thing....personalization .....

I have NOTHING against the new Kias beyond the anecdotal...and increasingly data driven history of SIGNIFICANT motor issues. They have cornered an aspect of the market that has trouble looking past the bling. Extremely sharp and shrewd marketing and pricing. They read the book of how the Japanese took over in the 80s and upped the anty. But,my father in law (92 yrs young) buys a new Sedona evey year.. Great features but a VERY uninspiring drive for those of us with skills and ability to assess driving dynamics. Steering is always dull with poor on center feel. Ride is rubbery and disconnected. Much of the 'beauty" is barely skin deep........you get a lot for the money...or do you????
Comparing a Telluride to a Land Cruiser is truly laughable. LC is a VERY solid vehicle in every way. It is easily the equal of a Defender fit and finish. Is it Range Rover quality? No. But look at the price. I have said it repeatedly. Either LC is one hell of a deal or my 2021 Range Rover Westie was 30k overpriced (actually cost 40K more but it is worth 10k more.....)
The thread originator is really down on the brand presently...the motor issues........just keep your fingers crossed. Big deal it blows a motor...Toyota replaces it.....

I still kick myself for buying a new Land Cruiser over a Kia....
