Wondering if anyone with the first edition style factory roof rack has tried to attach a Thule or Yakima rooftop cargo box? Curious if this factory rack has clearance to attach the box and keep it forward enough for the rear hatch to open?

Should be fine, I donโ€™t have a box but Iโ€™m putting a RTT up on top and it will just overhang the moonroof 12-16โ€.

I have never understood the RTT โ€˜thingโ€™โ€ฆ why not just set up a tent? Donโ€™t our truckโ€™s roofs have load limits? Do they stay on 24/7/365? Only to be used occasionally? And carrying around the added weight and the added wind drag is going to zap any chance at fuel economy.. Just asking..

I bought an Inspired Overland XL which is an ultralight RTT at 86lbs. Light enough for me to take off and put in the garage when weโ€™re not out on the trail. Not going to keep it up on top all the time so Iโ€™ll take the fuel hit when Iโ€™m using it. Static load limit is 600lbs on the FE rack / Dynamic is 165 so Iโ€™m all good on that front.

How do you like it?

Iโ€™m considering the following rooftop cargo boxes to attach to my 2024 Land Cruiser FE and wanted to know if anybody had any experience with them on the OEM roof rack:

We are going to use the cargo box primarily for hauling skis/snowboards and associated winter gear, but may use it a bit for general cargo carrying the rest of the year.

Iโ€™m interested in their functionality as well as how well they integrate/fit on the First Edition roof rack keeping in mind that we want the rear cargo door to be able to open and close.

Thanks in advance for your replies!

hey there. did you buy and attach a cargo box yet. I was going on here to post the exact same question as I'm considering trading my roof rack and cross bars for the First Edition roof rack but would like to be able to install a cargo box on the First Edition roof rack. Please lemme know if you were able to make it work and thanks.

I havenโ€™t made a decision yet on what route to go regarding a cargo box. I havenโ€™t received any feedback from anyone on the forum yet as to what cargo boxes they have installed on their First Edition roof rack. That being said, as winter draws closer Iโ€™m going to visit a couple outfitters that sell Yakima and Thule and make a decision/purchase later this month. Iโ€™m definitely leaning toward the low profile versions but will make a decision once I actually see them first hand and determine if they have enough storage capacity.

thanks for getting back to me. I'm not certain they'll even connect to the FE roof rack. My buddy has two cargo boxes I can use anytime which is why I'm curious. They attached to my OEM 4Runner cross bars but the FE roof rack is obviously much different. Good luck and thanks again

Has anyone run the INNO Wedge 660 box on a first edition rack? Anyone run any other low profile style boxes?
Thanks

Hey all. Iโ€™m also trying to attach a cargo carrier to the LC oem roof rack (FE). Iโ€™m looking at the Thule pulse Mโ€ฆspoke with a Thule rep, who said I need the

Caprock cargo box kit
roof platform cargo box mounting kit

Anyone have any experience with these or have any suggestions?

Thanks.

I purchased a used Yakima 16 Skybox - one manufactured in the older style - and made only slight adjustments. First adjustment to change position of one bar on rack and then to the lift height of the hatch. Works great.

Was that pretty easy to do? Donโ€™t have an OEM rack but keep going back and forth on the victory short.

We have a Thule Vector M and Iโ€™m concerned it wonโ€™t fit on a rack style like the OEM or Victory.

Hi there, interested in feedback if you ended up with a cargo box. Thanks

Looking at doing this same set up. Can you tell me which cross bar you ended up moving?

Just bought a cargo box. Thule Motion 3 XL. Also purchased the Thule Caprock cargo box kit so I could mount it on my FE style roof rack. Works perfectly.

I must admit my experience requesting technical advice from Thule was ridiculous and yielded NO useful information whatsoever. I wanted to know if the caprock kit was compatible with the FE roof rack. I had the dimensions of the slots and larger end openings in those slots yet the Thule representative would not even say it appears that their hardware would function with my rack. All he said was he could not certify or confirm the caprock kit would function either way my factory rack.

The caprock kit does function perfectly with the FE rack. 100% compatible.

Once I installed the caprock kit IAW the Thule instructions I did a trial fit of the Motion 3 XL and found that any time I slid the cargo box on the caprock rails the rubber strip that covers the slot in the rails grips the bottom of the cargo box and pushes out the caprock rails grips end caps. Even when taking the box down the end caps pop off when sliding the box towards you to remove it. Now IMO you cannot position the box for either installation or removal without sliding it sideways (the XL is bulky and I am short) and inevitably the rubber strip moves and pushes out the end caps. I called Thule again seeking a solution, perhaps a different, harder compound rubber strip that would allow the box to slide easier and once again ZERO valuable assistance. The representative said they cannot tell me to glue in the end caps and that there is no solution to this issue. She told me to simply remove the end caps before I install or remove the cargo box then reinstall them afterwards. I even asked if this issue could be forwarded to Thuleโ€™s engineering department for a review and potential solution, the answer was NO. She did however, say that if the end caps fall off and I lose them that Thule would send me new ones at no cost.

I do like Thuleโ€™s products, having previously owned their bike racks, crossbars and cargo boxes it was an easy decision to purchase from them again. I was and still am extremely disappointed in their willingness to provide technical assistance, compatibility information and solutions to problems with their products.
