I recently took my Trail Dust in for windshield warranty replacement. Service advisor reported back later to confirm claim was approved but needed authorization for a $412 camera/sensor calibration required with replacement. I said I was going call warrantor but approved calibration. Found out from warrantor they have no claim number under my policy AND full costs are covered! How should I proceed, be rational or make a big stink about it and get lifetime service, pay off truck... decisions, decisions cuz I know I getting the truck back without paying for the windshield.

What kind of warranty work was done on the windshield?

Are you talking about a Toyota warranty or something else? Not sure what you mean by pay off the truck, sounds like ti was a broken windshield, correct? Sounds like they paid everything right?
Agreed. Sounds like a bit of a hassle, but all was paid. End of story...

Who is the warranter? What happened to the windshield? Who would you be asking to pay off the truck? And to confirm - after your calls you have confirmed you’ll have no charge, or that’s what you’re still working on?

I would advise (like in all situations) to be reasonable. I would suggest your goal to be to get the issue with the windshield fixed, and not try to be the type of person to try to gain an advantage over what is likely a minor administrative error.

Toyota offered a windshield warranty issued by another party. The issuing party states "they choose the third party inspector and cost full costs of repair/replacement"... Toyota deemed a replacement windshield was needed cuz the chip was too large for a resin fill. Toyota said the replacement was covered but not camera calibration, issuer said it's all covered and that they have no claim under my policy but Toyota documented a claim number and says they got approval.

Toyota does not offer third party warranties. This is your dealer offering something. I do not think it is a warranty though, a chip would not be covered by warranty. It probably is something like third party warranty that also offers zero deductible windshield insurance.

I also do not understand the issue. You didn’t pay anything. They probably do not know if calibration is covered by zero deductible glass coverage or not.

I see - it’s a third party warranty that your dealer sells. I bought those a few times long ago, and found them to be a headache with a million hoops to jump through, and there’s always a very long list of exclusions and hidden fees. Not worth it to me personally.

So your issue is with the warrantor. Since they are saying they haven’t received a claim, I would ask them to clarify what the correct channel is to initiate a claim. If their response is through your dealer, then that would be the time to get the warrantor and your dealer on a three way call to come to the answer of why they have no claim.

I suspect this comment will displease you, but it seems likely that this is between you and the third party warrantor, and Toyota doesn’t owe you anything. They’re certainly not going to pay off your vehicle, and I’m not sure why they’d provide you any other accommodation.

Third party warranties suck.

Yeah, maybe find out what acutally happened then blow a gasket if it turns out to be truly warranted. Going full karen/apesh*t over a minor inconvenience with a reasonable explanation might get you extra comp but might also get you labeled as a PIA and make future issues more confrontational than necessary.

Nobody will give OP extra compensation for something that he already did not pay for lol.

I had three OEM windshield replacements done on my previous Audi and all suggested camera/radar calibration etc for all systems to work properly. They were never performed as the replacement was done at a private glass shop and only Audi dealerships had the proper tools for this calibration. If the windshield replacement is done with care and the damage area is not anywhere near the cameras/sensors, no real calibration is needed and everything worked as it should.

Toyota alway asks the sensors to be calibrated after windshield replacement. Any reputable insurance company won’t even let you waive calibration due to liability issues.

I was kine of being facetious with my demands seizing an opportunity but anyways I talking person to person with Toyota service. Come to find out Toyota contacted another party for the claim using my policy number from my warrantor! Toyota was wrong for pulling this stunt. I don't have a contract with this other party that is excluding calibration outta pocket charge of $415. My contract with the warrantor AND talking to a warrantor rep confirms all costs of repair/replacement are covered by the warranty contract.

EDIT : I'm waiting for a manager, I'm guessing they're trying to fix this issue with the party they got approval with using my warranty policy number.

I just don't understand why Toyota would use another party with completely different coverage and gimme a warranty contract with another party...
Again, this is the dealer, not Toyota. They probably use multiple 3rd party providers and someone on the service side made a claim with the incorrect provider.

Are you sure about? All my OEM glass was replaced through Progressive insurance, and their default provider is Satellite which I will never use after one incident. During the process of selecting own shop they make you acknowledge possible calibration may be needed. All three times it was never needed. And calibration from Audi was around $1500-2000 for the service. Glass itself was around $2500 for the windshield. I do not miss those days lol.

I too have a third party warranty from dealer on the windshield. I have already had a chip filled in. It covers up to 5k in 5 years. It is something your dealer offered not Toyota. I went through the third party directly to get the chip filled they called a local windshield paplce and they came to my house and repaired it. I will do the same when windshield needs replaced. My dealer required me to get it for the first edition as they were rare around here to find and most dealers added on crap like this warranty.

Yeah, I recently got windshield on wife’s Venza replaced and Progressive rejected to do road side replacement because they wouldn’t allow it to be driven under their insurance policy without calibration.
