I found the same issue when i lifted my air filter. Anyone know the part#?

I removed mine back in late January; given the unobtainability and need to Macgyver a replacement, removed it remains. I haven't noticed any differences in sound nor anything else.

Oh, given suggestions on keeping the critters out, I did put in wire mesh on the openings to the airbox. Since then, no issues!

There was a post awhile back that I copied... here it is. I cut a piece of wire mesh to fit and used duct tape to attach to the inside of the air box. it's stayed put for the 2+ months it's been in there.

I'm not saying that this is the same problem that you have -- but I actually DID have rats in my intake filter box! I could hear them in there, and when I opened the box and pulled the filter -- I kind of jumped back as I was grossed out -- because there were TWO rats in the box. They had started to gather nesting materials, including chewing into that pad in the bottom of the box. They apparently didn't like the taste, as they didn't chomp on it too much (I've no idea that that pad is for).

So obviously Toyota didn't include any mechanism to keep critters out of your engine air intake. I ended up putting in a screen to keep the veeeermits out!!

Thanks, i just did the same thing today, hope i dont get any warning lights on the dash.

I've had my DIY screen installed for many months now, no ill effects.
