Consumer Reports 2026 reliability scores are in ...

I would say the Consumer reports here on Landcruiserforum.com are maybe 99.8 out of 100.. Based on over 5,000 land cruiser owners less than lets say 10 but honestly I think its like 5 or so have had trans issues and add the other major failures maybe less than 10 all together. …so based on thousands of owner reports here I think it arguably provides a more precise picture of Land Cruiser reliability than broad Consumer Reports surveys. and to be fair 80s,100s,200s all had some cooling issues come up, I imagine through Kaizen they've gotten better over time.
1000% agreed

Agreed. Some reason, I see this “unhappy LC” man put a lot of efforts to downplay the LC…what the purpose is?!

I don’t care what that “so-called survey/rating” came from. Nowadays, fake news are every where.
Here in this forum, real 5690 users/ owners… how many major problems reports. Total is 6 … and the rest couple dozens are back-up brake noise ( even just 1 happens after 2 years still want to report and echo to take advance of new brake ) This little things happened to me few times in last year and half= is it problem…nah…)

I have the brake noise in reverse too.

It’s such a minor annoyance that I rarely think about it. I’ll bring it up again at the 15K service. No big deal, but it technically is a reliability or QDR issue.

A lot of “unreliable” car brands in JD Power or CR data suffer from minor problems that still count statistically as problems, but they don’t prevent safe operation on a day to day basis.

As a kid I remember seeing cars or trucks broke down on the side of the road. Not every day but frequently enough it wasn’t unusual.

Now I almost never see that outside of dude’s towing too much in the Black Hills on a hot day trying to go too fast. It’s not even the truck, it’s the trailer tires being blown up all the time.

Of course I also don’t own a 3rd Gen Tundra, a 3rd Gen Sequoia, a GX550, or an LX600 or LX700. If I did I could stand a legit chance of being stranded with a blown up engine.

I too have the brake squeal issue. It’s a legitimate complaint, even if exceptionally minor (in my estimation). I’d not hesitate to repurchase the vehicle knowing what I know.

It’s frustrating that we can’t have genuine conversations about our complaints without being drowned out by those that clearly are here for any opportunity to 💩 on the vehicle most of us love.

Those curious about how much weight to place on Consumer Report’s opinions on things should research them with an open mind - you might not place much value in their thoughts on vehicles like a Land Cruiser.

Our hated 4 cylinder keeps running while their so called ‘better engine’ explodes. You have all chosen wisely.

It's a car. You have not sworn fealty to it. You are allowed to have mixed, complex, and nuanced opinions about things you own.

Absolutely. There are things about our LC 250 that I would change if I could, but overall I like it a lot anyway.

The OP doesn’t like anything about the LC 250 so if he owns one he should probably get rid of it, and if he doesn’t then I’m not sure what the allure of talking about it is?

For example I’m a strait dude who is married. I have no use for, or interest in romantic relations with another dude. I actively dislike the prospect of such a thing if I’m to be personally involved. So I don’t frequent forums for gay dudes to complain about their lifestyle or activities. I don’t wish them any specific harm, I’m just not interested.

For anyone wanting the details: 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Reliability - Consumer Reports

It looks like brakes and the early delivery leaks might have been the big issues? The transmission is showing as highly reliable which gives me some hope that while serious, those are rare problems if they aren't showing up in the CR surveys. This does highlight what I've found to be a common problem with the CR reliability ratings, they don't seem to weigh issues by how serious they are when it comes to the ratings. (On brakes I'd say Toyota deserves it for all the B.S. with stalling on the fix -- not a major issue, but they blew it up by not handling it well and it looks like that made it into the CR surveys.)

The brakes deserve the red X. This is great context.

I wonder how the 25 4Runner rates ? I had the brake squeal fixed, I also had not one issue with 14k miles before I traded for a 25 1958

They give the 25 4Runner a reliability score of 95 vs. the LC's 53.

That’s weird.. dont they have the same hybrid system ?
The image above indicates the drivetrain has nothing to do with CR’s rating - it seems to based on brakes and noises/leaking (?) and accessories (another ?) as the negative drivers.

I can’t speak for other people and their thought processes, but for me…
I will be a thousand times more critical of something I have, something I like, something I use daily and especially something which is now supposedly part of my identity than I would be of something that doesn’t mean much to me.

And absolutely nothing will annoy me more than blatant fanboy bullshit like that Top Gear review posted here, the people who need to tell me how great the 1GD diesel is and how they wish they could get it without the faintest clue about it or people bashing on the Passport, Telluride etc. for whatever reason.

Having said that, if this car, or anything else, made me fundamentally unhappy (and/or anxious) I wouldn’t be here wasting my energy reading and posting about it, I would be getting rid of it from my garage and more importantly from my mind.

But that’s just me.

Most of this, especially in bigger areas like powertrain and engine scored solid green. How did it end up with a lower overall score?

Stop using logic! This is an Internet forum for automotive enthusiasts. The list of allowed activities is limited to:

1.) Bitching about a vehicle you don’t own or will never buy that you may have never even seen in person. This bitching can be for things real and imagined.

2.) Posting about modifications you have made that are questionable in function, safety, and value. Preferably with photos.

3.) Selling the above mods if they are parts to other members 6 months later after you realize they are useless at best, and dangerous at worst.

4.) Defending your choice of vehicle purchase from others engaging in forum directive #1, even when those criticisms are completely accurate and valid.

5.) Arguing about oil brands, grades, viscosity ranges, change intervals, and any other vehicle related fluids. Once you stake out a position you will defend it until death.

6.) Asking questions about tires or wheels. Endless endless questions.

7.) Arguing about fuel octane levels.

I love my LC, even while wishing it was a little bigger (the LX700h is almost sexy minus her flat butt). Sometimes I get the brake noise in reverse but that sure beats the 3500 GMC train-squeal brakes I dealt with 100% of the time.
