‘Tis the season for wanting heated mirrors.

It just seems like it should be an easy mod, at least whenever parts are available. I don’t mind paying.

I would think so too, and hope it to be the case. It would very cool if 1958 owners could do mods to get the individual items that they are individually missing out on. Package deals for features can be frustrating (eg all the things I bought and didn’t want as a part of a package, but had to buy to get the other items I wanted).

Where's there's a will, there's a way............. Mostly depends on your mechanical skill set and or your budget.

No mechanical skills, there are many that do but ............ you have to pay them.

No budget, there's many out there that will freely share the mechanical knowledge on modifications that can be done on a budget.

No Budget or skills ...... Probably need to have really good social skills..........LOL

You’re right, SDM was originally a standard/non-deletable feature on the Base and FE trims, but then partway through 2025 made it an option. I think I saw it was back to being standard for 2026 models?

It's still an option for '26.

Trying to turn a 1958 into a premium is going to cost you dearly. I call that penny wise and dollar stupid. You would have been better off purchasing a premium and then downgrading to the round headlights. JMO

After some googling it seems like that is what the FJ folks did...bought the heated mirror then wired it into the cab and spliced it to the rear window heater cable/harness. Similar to what EOD mentioned earlier in the thread.

I 1000% agree. I see those linear LC light assemblies and all I actually see is the lower strip of texturized plastic. Not saying they look terrible, just that I can’t unsee the part that does look terrible lol

Why the hell would I want to turn a 1958 into a premium? It's not about headlights, it's everything else. I didn't want leather seats and interior trim, a huge screen, a sunroof, etc. Coming off a 2010 4Runner Trail edition for the past 15 years I was delighted that they offered a more utilitarian trim level. The fact that it was $15k cheaper was a bonus, and I would have 100% gone for the V6 Lexus instead at ~$70k.

All I want are heated mirrors. Some 1958s came with them.

$140 each. Worth it. The wiring is my main concern though.

Great find on the part numbers. Found this video from stickerfab installing some jdm mirrors and you can see the premium one does have a second harness that is missing from the other picture that was posted here.

I was just going by people in this thread with 58s saying that they had heated mirrors:

This is not true. I have been using it a lot on my 24’ 1958. Press the rear defrost button and it will start clearing the side mirror with a warm spot growing from the center of the glass. Here in Georgia this past week we’ve had that weird weather that slaps your windshield and outside mirrors with instant fog covering in low lying areas on your way to work. Press the button and the fog and moisture dissipates in a minute or so.

Idk, im not convinced. ive witnessed my mirrors defrost even today, front / rear defrost must do it…

That’s not true. There are at least some with the heating element. It appears to possibly be on the early builds. I have experienced mine defrost and defog with turning on the rear defroster. I have a 1958 delivered at the end of June 2024, one of the first in the northeast United Staes. As someone else posted, it is JDM heated glass without the icon.
