Brakes Squeal

For Australian owners.

Please consider filing a complaint here: https://www.toyota.com.au/support/contact-us 'make a complaint'

Don't get your hopes up - I've done the same, but haven't received a response. Regardless, I still think this is important to do, as they need to see the complaints.

Next, I'm going to give another dealership a try, and depending on their attitude towards this issue, I'll then try to communicate with Jeremie and Toyla at Corporate. Here are their contact details, should anyone else want to do the same:

Jeremie Smith - Public Affairs Manager
0436 120 310
jeremie.smith@toyota.com.au

Tayla Hartley - Senior Corporate & Lifestyle Public Affairs Specialist
0459 879 615

In case it helps you , suggest including a video of the noise. We all know how terrible it sounds. It does not look good for a high end brand new vehicle making such a god-awful noise. I wasted so many hours on the telephone trying to justify my position to only get get excuse after excuse. When I sent in a video (that I think they realized could be easily shared) everyone’s attitude changed completely. They went from trying to justify how I should just be patient to saying it was completely unacceptable and it would be fixed right away. There was just no defending the noise in a video. I also asked them to put it in writing that it was not affecting braking performance and it was not damaging the braking system.

Good on ya, mate – keep it going and best of luck!

Brought my LC in this morning for my 10K service. Service rep immediately acknowledged that the brake noise in reverse is a well-known problem, noted it on my service record, as well as my issue with using remote start on the Toyota app disabling Carplay ( I have to reboot the main screen by holding the volume button in till it reboots and then reboot my phone to get it to work) which I know some others here have posted.

She was friendly, acknowledged the issues, and I think the rest is in the hands of Toyota corporate. Maybe they just don't have enough parts to service all the LCs that would be impacted and that's why corporate doesn't acknowledge it.

Meanwhile, I have gained huge skills driving backward up my 150 ft long driveway and backing into my old-school narrow 2 car garage each evening so that I don't have to back out early am and wake the entire St. Louis metro area.
Also in St. Louis, mind sharing what dealer you have been working with? Have Appointment @ Lou Fusz today.....but bought my LC out of state.

Ok so here is what they did including what I think are part numbers. Note they also installed the “shim kit, anti squea”
They never mentioned this to me. I believe this is similar to the shim kit in the TSB on the GX550. Also included photos they sent of the brakes. One of the two rotors looks different than the other. Looks brand new to me. Maybe they did replace it?

Good news the squeal is 100% gone. Bad news my mpg has dropped about 25% from about 21 mpg down to 16 mpg. Any ideas why MPG would suddenly decrease post brake work?

Latest from my Toyota dealer after taking the LC in for the 15,000 service and third complaint of the squealing issue:

"We did inspect. Toyota is preparing a remedy for this. We are not allowed to attempt a repair until the remedy is available."

Rinse and Repeat.

Take a video of the squeal and and send it to your service manager. Ask them to warranty that that god awful sound is safe, causing damage and TSB will be released prior to warranty expiring. Tundra was released in late 2021 and had virtually same issue. Toyota did not get around to issuing a TSB until May 2024. Plenty of owners were well past 36K miles by then and out of warranty. TSB's are not covered if out of warranty.

I started having this issue as well right around 6K miles. I called the Toyota Brand Engagement Center (800)-331-4331 and received a case number. Hoping that helps move this to a TSB.

Here’s the video that was just sent to Toyota corporate on top of what the service manager had already sent. Let’s see what they do….
I have also provided two separate videos to the dealer. First visit was around 2k miles and they shaved the front rooters and it did not help. Then around 4k miles, I took the car in and they shaved the rear rooters and it also did not help.
I have now called the Toyota warranty department and they said they are aware of the problem and it is being addressed. It is unacceptable that after owning a vehicle for less than one year we have to still wait for a fix. If we all post our disappointment with Toyota maybe this will be escalated.
Please post your disappointment with the break noise

Dis they install the anti squeal shim kit?

In the last few weeks, an inmate reported that the Toyota Brand Engagement Center telephone number, (800) 331-4331, went to the Toyota battery factory.

Welcome to the asylum ski.

Hello everyone, an update on our brake squeal issue...after filing a formal complaint with Toyota Australia they have been in contact with our dealer and have approved them to order the parts to fix the problem. Our dealer called us yesterday and said they've ordered the parts and Toyota Australia called us today to confirm that they have approved our vehicle to be fixed. I strongly recommend to anyone in Australia to go to Toyota Australia's website and complete the 'make a complaint' form. Let see how long it takes for our parts to come in. I'll keep you all posted.

After my dealer received the new break parts from Toyota and installed I thought all was good. The break squeal came back for me after a few weeks. The dealership opened a ticket with Toyota Corporate and current status is "under investigation". This was 3 months ago. I regret my purchase. First and last Toyota.

Are you happy with it otherwise?

Welcome to the asylum.

I understand your frustration. This is not the first vehicle that they have had squealing brakes plague their new owners.

They have a history of making things right. If you like the LC otherwise, I would give them some more time.

I spoke with brand engagement yesterday and was told Toyota is working on the fix. There was no timeline given.

My update on this:

4 days ago, Toyota dealer replaced front pads, rotors, shims - all under warranty. Silent as a Ninja so far!

🤞 Hope it stays that way. I'm sure my neighbours do too.
