Brake Squeal in reverse?

Can anybody explain how the components in this TSB is going to solve the problem?

IOW, what is causing the squeal? It seems it’s generated from the pad/rotor contact. So are the pads in the TSB a different material?

Did anyone bed their brake pads from new when they purchased their vehicle? I’m not real sure a little bit of brake pads bedding wouldn’t have solved this.

IMO this little part will solve the squealing issue.......

I did bed my brakes properly and I've only had it squeal once, but then again I don't reverse 1st thing in the morning. But there's too many with the same issue for it not to be a thing.

My 4Runner has the same sort of disk brake set up. IOW, the Anti-rattle spring isn’t unique to LC, if that’s what you’re implying.

I reread the TSB, and it appears we are getting a different part number brake pad. Maybe they came up with a different composition brake pad but it sure seems that is low hanging fruit in automotive engineering circles.

I don't know why you would think I was implying anything. But it is my belief, the replacement spring may be of a better quality and since that is what assists the pads to separate from the rotor surface, it leads me to think a better spring would solve the squealing issue.

I followed the directions in the PDF owners manual that I downloaded from Toyota’s website. Miss Daisy’s brakes started squealing anyway..

Then my GF and I went over to Brasstown Bald (IIRC) in Georgia. It is the highest peak in the state. Going up, the road was a very steep climb. But coming back down several hours later was even STEEPER. Engine braking would not keep our speed in check. So I was forced to ride the brakes the entire way down the paved road. By the time we got to the bottom of the very steep hill, my GF asked me “What’s that aweful smell?”

Of course, it was the brakes. They were VERY hot, causing a big stink. So if my following Toyota’s instructions in the owners manual wasn’t enough (it wasn’t, Miss Daisy’s brakes started steeling soon there after), then surely the very steep decent should have fixed them.. They stoped squealing for a week, but then started back with the God awful squealing with a vengeance.

Dropped mine off yesterday afternoon and explained the noise is noticeable in the morning when backing up at slow speeds. Dealer confirmed the noise this morning and ordered the parts.

Oh great the one piece where my dealer used the old part instead of the new one!

I got mine fixed this week. If you are having this issue, contact your dealer and or call toyota, the fix is already out.

They are horrible but finally got it done. Glad I didn’t buy from them. Earl Stewart Toyota is great
