💵 For Sale Westcott Designs Full Length Roof Rack ($650) (Minneapolis & Denver)

Hey all,

Sorry if the location is confusing; local pickup in Minneapolis or delivery to Denver area mid-September. I'm in Minneapolis, but will be taking a road trip to Denver September, so the deal could be done there as well.

Selling my Westcott roof rack. I bought it in October 2024 and I'm finding that a steel, tubular style rack will work better for me. I've owned both style racks in the past and, while I love the look of the Westcott, I'm moving on to a Gamiviti Essential Expo.

Anyway, the rack has been used but not abused. It's been in the elements and through a few car washes, but I guess that's where aluminum wins...no rust. The front fairing is showing some strange oxidation. My guess is it's a bi-metallic reaction of the steel hardware with the aluminum fairing. There's also a bit of discoloration of the anodized finish on the crossbars. While not cosmetically perfect, it's overall a well taken care of rack.

@l-c, that’s a classic example of a galvanic corrosion starting up. The aluminum is a sacrificial anode against steel, meaning the hardware will survive at the expense of the fairing.

I do recommend you go ahead and address that before it gets out of control. Aluminum is typically slow to corrode away, so I imagine there has been a good amount of moisture and/or salt catalyzing the reaction. Not trying to tank your sale, but it’s easy to address it at this stage and figured it might help more than hurt to pass it along.

Bump. And price drop: now $650

@DubDub is correct. There was quite a bit of galvanic corrosion. Additionally, Westcott chose to use plain steel t-nuts as the attachment point for the fairing.

I removed the fairing, gave it a light sanding, and recoated it with some Cardinal Paints powder coat touch up paint. It's good stuff. I also replaced the t-nuts with stainless, drop-in style ones, which should give this a much longer life now.

I'll be in Denver next weekend if any of you Colorado folks want this thing! Otherwise, pick is always in option in the MSP area.
