When manually applying the brakes while towing a trailer, as shown, you see the two red brake bars in the dash center illuminate AND a proportional amount of trailer braking shows in the OUTPUT bar of the trailer brakes controller display.

The other image shows when the non-adaptive cruise control (set at 56 mph) applies the brakes. The Land Cruiser instrument display shows the two red braking bars. However, the trailer brakes controller display OUTPUT shows nothing, indicating the trailer brakes are NOT being used.

Am in Tow Haul mode in both images.

Is it true that only the vehicle is braking when the non-adaptive cruise control applies the brakes while towing?

Interesting what you’re experiencing.

When using conventional cruise control it only holds the speed, & doesn’t apply brakes from that system.

If the PCS is ‘on’ it will brake as needed in certain safety conditions.

If what you’re calling ‘Non-adaptive’ is ‘conventional cruise’ that old-school system does no collision avoidance & is not using lidar. It doesn’t know to use any brakes. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (Adaptive) does apply brakes, but shouldn’t be used while trailering.

If a trailer has electric brakes, you set the trailer up in your IP, connect the 7-pin, set appropriate gain on the controller, then trailer brakes work when you -
  • step on the brake pedal & proportional to amount of brake pressure applied
  • apply manual input on the dash brake controller
