Stolen

False. Most most thieves that break into homes/garages with armed occupants present get shot/run away. NOT the other way around. Look up the stats.
That’s USA, Canada has strict gun laws. Sure most Canadian’s can get shotguns and rifles, but handguns are few and far between. Canadian’s with handguns are usually police, private security, and criminals.

Looks like LC and car thefts happened / reported more often in Canada than in US ? Just wondering … is that “business” booming? And law enforcement is “nothing” there ?!

I just saw my neighbor got prosecuted in day light confronting CAT thief. and you definitely did not read what happened at Toronto for the past few years.

Theft is through the roof in port cities.

Law Enforcement cares, but when a vehicle is stolen, GPS goes dark within minutes of the theft and it ends up in a container full of other stolen cars destined for West Africa within an hour or two of being taken,. The stolen vehicle doesn’t have much dwell time on the road where law enforcement knows it is actively reported as stolen. The majority of the time, it hasn’t even been reported (or discovered to be) stolen yet.

Sounds like you Canadians need to get out and vote for new leadership, and change the laws.

The car theft trend has held true through governments left to right.

In the 80’s, 90’s to early 2000’s I lived within 30 minutes of the car theft capital of North America. It was “game on” for any punk with a screwdriver and a hacksaw. I had multiple attempts on my own personal ride, catching someone in the act 3x. Even a 2 way paging alarm wasn’t immune to a little social engineering in the middle of the night.

Immobilizers becoming standard equipment slowed those theft stats down for a bit. The problem is, there are grey hat hackers who love to find and share exploits for OEM security systems and security technologies. That leads to development of software and hardware that gets shared and sold and allows the car thieving b*stards to use those exploits to drive off in your vehicle for profit.

Short of tying a rope to your recovery point and running it to your bedroom window, wrapping it around your big toe, most thieves know you can’t be awake and alert watching your ride 24/7 (even if cameras can).

Specially for Canada, what I saw is not left or right unlike many Americans want to believe that change a direction will solve all the issues. What I feel the true root cause is bureaucracy. Criminals figured out a working business models by out pace law enforcement. If the government started to treat it as a matter of national security and invested in targeting these organized crime, they can knock these mobs down one group after another. Send these criminals to the edge of Arctic Ocean and force them to provide labor to build a country with their hands. A few years later I bet a lot of them will think twice before committing the same crime again.

Ghost immobiliser saved mine when they cut into the tailgate

Think absent a physical barrier we are all vulnerable to the drag or lift into a flat bed tow truck style theft - best you can do is ghost immobiliser that connected to the engine management system and a Physical deterrent and ideally barrier

Mine is still waiting for the arrival of a new tailgate - been waiting since the attempted theft in late May

Ya, being the victim of any sort of crime sucks. Some people in this world just suck period.
Hey i'm based in Ontario - and they've tried to steel a highlander :) had a motion activated electronic Dog Barking on loud speaker in the garage :) they ran away loool

Did you have any after market security systems installed on it prior to the theft ? in Ontario some insurance companies are charging CAD 2000 more if you don't install a TAG system..

I'm hoping that my new DiskLoc Gold steering wheel lock will be enough of an added deterrent so that they will pass my car over. It's easily visible before they break in, so they will know ahead of time that they will have to deal with it if they want to steal the car...

Dunno what that is but if it's got a lock cylinder, chances are thieves can pick that lock. Added deterrents like the hidden ones I mentioned earlier... OBD lock and/or relocate, immobilizer will def slow down an unsuspecting thief. If they're staking out or ride, that might be a challenge they'd be incline to take up. Stacking deterrents is your best bet.

The RCMP have located it thanks to Toyota tracking. They must not have been smart enough to disable it. They had abandoned it at the last shown parked location. Now to see what other damage besides the broken window has been done.
are you out east or west? i have heard out east is really bad - my friend had his car stolen, but Surrey here in BC would be a bad spot too

Awesome that the Toyota tracking worked and the authorities have found it quickly. Best wishes on repairing the damages...I trust your insurance will apply and pay?

Any update on the damages done to your LC?

That was the former car theft capital of North America I alluded to earlier. Vehicles have evolved, and it only a matter of time until vehicle theft methods evolve to match nation wide.

OP is in Alberta.
