Stolen

Most definitely used the OBDII port. Will be looking at additional security options once I get it back. Things like ODBII locks, immobilzers, etc.

An OBDII lock is a minor annoyance for someone trying to take your vehicle. There are several different immobilizer and alarm/immobilizer options ranging from inexpensive to definitely not inexpensive.

Get IGLA for your LC's, relocate and/or lock OBD, interior molle panels everywhere! More than 1 fail safe are better, and slowing down the thieves is the goal... cuz if they're gonna jack you they will.

Think of security as something that works best in layers. There are security cam videos showing thieves driving away in as little as 2 minutes and as many as 6 minutes after gaining entry to a target vehicle.

Ideally there would be a warn feature indicating "this won't be one of those easy targets," and a no-start condition that isn't easily defeated for those who miss or refuse to heed the warnings and make entry/connect to CanBus.

Mine was done by 3 individuals working together and was gone in 10 minutes. Painful to watch on camera.

IGLA looks interesting. Do you have it and if so, what did it cost you?

I can understand that. The key sniffing technique where they amplify signal from your fob typically takes two thieves. The other can be done solo. They could have been on a roll where they were grabbing multiple vehicles, had a stolen vehicle nearby should things have gone south.

There is lots of reading available online should you want to venture onto the dark web to see the tools and techniques used. It is big business for relatively little outlay that can net them many late model vehicles with Push To Start and smart keys.

I have done a bit of research on this even before it happened. I had been keeping my fobs in a steel box inside the house to prevent stealing the signal. I would have to believe it was an alternate method. I saw a video where they are using an electronic locksmith device that you can buy on TEMU.

I have done research also- when reading posts on many international forums, you can almost consider some of them to be a “how-to” for thieves looking to steal certain model vehicles. It’d be nice to keep certain content on the “down low” for that reason 😉

You're right. I think I'll remove the video link.

My 2024 LCLC was stolen out of my driveway last night. The window was broken to access, and I have no idea how they started it because I have both fobs indoors in secure locations that cannot be scanned.

Toyota is working with the police to track it right now.
Same thing happened to me while I was staying at a hotel in the Toronto area. Luckily the police were able to locate my vehicle a few days later, but all of the communication wires were ripped out and it cost my insurance $10,000 to repair.

Ya, I saw your post after I posted this. Sorry man. I still don't know the extent of my damage other than the broken window.

The RCMP have located it thanks to Toyota tracking. They must not have been smart enough to disable it. They had abandoned it at the last shown parked location. Now to see what other damage besides the broken window has been done.
Glad they found it and hope you get it back quickly without to much damage. If at all possible I recommend you park it in your garage going forward, and keep a loaded firearm close at hand.

Castle Doctrine is a beautiful thing . . . 👍

Sorry to hear that. Hope it get recovered

Very sorry to hear, keep my fobs in an RFID blocker box to prevent scanning .Should we all be getting after market tracker devices vs relying on Toyota to find our rides? Living near foreign border makes it easy for thieves to avoid the law.
NOTHING can stop your car from being stolen if they have physical access to your car. Depends on where you live any tracker you put in your car are likely ignored by law enforcement until it’s too late. You can only hope that you add enough resistance to make your car harder to be stolen. But keep in mind that this is one of the hottest car for car theft

Hence the garage and loaded firearm. Virtually guarantees it won't be stolen, at least from your home. In Texas, and many other states, Castle Doctrine extends to inside your vehicle. So even if your out and about, but still in your car, if someone forcibly tries to steal it with you inside, you can use either your vehicle or your firearm to defend yourself 👍

They won’t steal your car when you are inside, more likely they come and took it, either in garage or on street doesn’t matter that much. You have gun, it’s great. But they likely come to your house with BIGGER guns and more hands to help. We got somebody in my community who was shut to death just to confront a CAT thief during day light.

False. Most most thieves that break into homes/garages with armed occupants present get shot/run away. NOT the other way around. Look up the stats.
