Side mirror vibration anyone?

2025 with 800 miles on it. I noticed the vibration in my drivers side view mirror around 500 miles in while at highway speeds. It appears to be more related to bumps in the road than wind resistance though or maybe a combination. It’s pretty annoying to not have a clear view out of the mirror. I don’t have this issue with my 2017 Tacoma with 80k miles on it. Mirrors are solid.

This was my attempt. It blended in well until the first time the mirrors folded and rubbed off the paint. Vibration was unchanged at highway speeds so I removed it. That was a plastic peanut butter lid.

You probably used a "chunky PB" lid vs a "creamy PB" lid .........

Both my 24 GX OT+ and 2025 LC 1958 driver side mirrors vibrate a little. Passenger side doesn’t in either.

On the GX I had the dealer take apart to try to tighten things up and they came back to me w no fix m, saying it was ‘within acceptable tolerances.’

Not sure what the issue is but I do know the gearing on the mirrors themselves seem very loose and not good at holding mirrors in place during a wash/dry.

Just to add a data point. Used a spare rubbermaid lid from a large container (not sure where the other half is!). Worked a treat. Seemed to keep the mirrors from vibrating or rattling, and I tested this to a pretty high (shall remain nameless) speed on a lonely stretch of highway.

Did not, sorry.. but it's roughly the same as in your pic above except mine made more of a circle with only a 1/2" cut out at the bottom . I did measure the plastic thickness with my not-working digital calipers, and the best I could come up with is ~1/16" thick or about 1.60mm. They have survived several highway drives and a high pressure car wash thus far...

One trick I learned is you can pivot the mirror forward (while in the 'driving' position) and this will cam the mirror up higher, making inserting the shim much easier. Good luck!

Lord I’m glad this came up in my searches. I have had a mid trim for a year now. I have the driver side issue but mine seems to just be the mirror wobbles not the housing. I’ve taken it to the dealership and brought it up twice and it’s never been addressed. Seems like it’s very common and mostly driver side. Any tips to tighten up just the mirror? Or maybe it really is the housing? Also new here. My last vehicle was a 2000 4runner i had built out for overlanding. Planning on the same for this. MUCH more family friendly over the 4Runner.

Same here slight vibration can be noticed when looking at the driver side mirror specially on highway speed and I notice it in the reflections not looking so clear .
Basic trim Saudi spec 2.8 diesel.

I created a simple isolator that reduced mirror vibration by about 90%, inspired by an idea I saw online but with my own twist.


• I started with a thin Tupperware lid (the kind that comes with deli meat containers) and traced a circle using a mug, then cut it out.


• Next, I applied peel-and-stick black felt pads to both sides of the circle. This helped fill the gap between the mirror housing and the mirror itself.


• I then cut a ½-inch slit and hollowed out the center so the piece formed a C-shape. This allowed it to fit snugly without interfering with the mirror’s movement.


The felt not only stiffened the mirror assembly but also reduced wind noise by closing the gap where air could flow. After the modification, the mirror only shakes slightly on rough roads—previously, it was almost unusable on the highway.


It’s frustrating to fix a factory flaw on a $60K+ vehicle with such a DIY solution, but it works. From what I’ve seen, both the Land Cruiser and GX models have similar issues, which suggests a design flaw. Hopefully, Toyota addresses this with a TSB.

I’m fairly certain the mirror shakes because the assembly on the driver side has too much give to it. The shim/ gasket I built stopped the issue. You should give it a shot sometime.

Thanks, I just might do that. Pretty hard to see at highway speed, so glad there’s a solution until Toyota acknowledges the issue.
