Ringing noise that only stops when stopped 2024 LC

I took mine in today for a full diagnostic, more in-depth than the typical maintenance checklist, and if they try to say it's normal when they're done, I'm just not going to accept that answer and I'll call corporate in the middle of the shop for all I care... They gave me a rental today, it's a 2024 corolla hybrid and it's extremely quiet. No ringing. So things are not adding up. I even took my LC to a car audio specialist yesterday and he got into the car and immediately said "there's something wrong with this car, that would drive me nuts" so we have to get this on their radar with the service department! It's not okay!
So glad to know that other people can hear this. I never got anywhere, was also told by the dealership that it was “normal”. It still rings at 13,000 miles and don’t see it ever going away. I agree I really hope it can eventually be fixed

I mentioned this in one of the other threads. I wrapped a jacket around my center console today, fairly light weight one (Arcteryx Atom LT) and it really knocked the sound down. You could barely hear it and it wasn’t painful. So, the problem seems like it could be solved.

Odd that someone went and drove another LC and it didn’t have the issue, but someone else said every one at the dealer did. I didn’t start noticing this until a week ago. Maybe I shouldn’t have put that RAV4 volume knob in. Anyway, it’s giving me a headache, literally.

Maybe they got a bad batch of parts. Like when you get a doorbell transformer and it hums, so you go through about four of them before you find one that doesn’t.

It’s really my only complaint with the car besides some weird rattling/wind noise sound over 70mph coming from somewhere near the a pillars on the outside of the car.

Anyways, hearing that a light jacket can make a major difference is heartening. @melvincat mentioned in another thread that they didn’t want to put any sound dampening in the center console due to heat risks but I’m at the point where I might take that risk.

It would be much better if Toyota would recognize the issue and fixed it themselves. Are people in this thread contacting corporate about it? I will give them a call after I talk to the dealer about it at my first service.

I'm thinking this is the offender. I'm going to pull the back tomorrow (which looks simple and possible vs the whole console). I'm going to try to get video if that is where the sound is originating (I believe it is). Maybe Toyota will swap them out or test them, who knows. I reached out to some car audio treatment companies and explained the issue. Heat and also material that will stop a freq that high up, but there may be some thickness issues.

Melvin says it's the DC/DC converter. Is that what you think too?
It’s a shiny silver box that has wires running into it and annoys me, that is the extent of my knowledge. I’m apt to believe Melvin knows more than I do. But, the Toyota diagrams I posted point to it being an inverter, I dunno.

I probably should drive the heck out of it and then hit it with a thermometer before I start throwing noise dampening in there, but I’m just going to go with it. I think the material I got may be a bit too thick, it’s roughly 8-9mm.

Your Hybrid Converter (Inverter ? IDK) is under the hood, passenger side, just rearward of the fuse box, with some rater large orange cables running into it.

No dice, I covered as much as I reasonably could, the material I got was too thick for a lot of areas, sound is still present. If it annoys you too badly, a jacket thrown over the rear seems to knock it out. Sound deadening the whole area would be a task.

Was the sound reduced at least? Did you take any pictures of where you put the material?

No, I didn't take any pictures. I slapped some on the rear of the hvac control trim, then across the inside of the lower trim, jammed some into the pax side between the trim and the inverter/box, and laid a piece across the top of the box. There is a vent on the driver's side, can't cover that up.

No it wasn't reduced any noticeable level, maybe a touch. You would have to take apart the whole center console, probably line everything with MLV, and who knows if it would work. What I have is just too thick to get into a lot of areas. I concentrated on the rear and pax side since it sounds to me as if that is where the majority of the sound is coming from, I was hoping for a noticeable sound reduction at least, but didn't get very positive results.

Perhaps it is slightly lower when moving faster than a crawl, may have taken some of the higher freq out. I'll need to give it a few days, I'm obviously paying more attention than I normally would.

Update: So after a few days, I figure my half ass insulation job has knocked the sound down to that of a idling desktop computer fan (which is what it sounds like), definitely took a decent amount of the high pitch sound out if you are sitting in the front. Sitting in the back, it could still be annoying. One it probably better off just tossing a jacket over the rear of the center console, which knock the sound out completely. LC hasn't caught on fire yet, which is a good sign. I am still of the opinion that it is a fan, if it is, Toyota should spend the extra fifty cents and install a quieter fan.
