Pistol Safe/Holster

From what I understand even if a firearm was stolen even when properly and legally locked in a safe (or stored/locked according to law), The CCW holder would be required to immediately report the theft to the doj and local authorities.

They also give you some ridiculously short amount of time to do so.
Well aside from not knowing your car was broken into or stolen, I’d sssume everyone would report that right away!

Seems pretty standard to me. However having lived in Alaska for a while and being part of a native Alaskan family, it’s pretty traditional to receive and give firearms in potlucks… so I’ve got a few without any kind of proof of ownership lol🫣

I use a specialty safe that I've used for many years now with great success. I've tested it in many different conditions on multiple continents. I've never had a failure. The gun simply stays on me/ with me. So, it's universal for any vehicle I get in and also secure when I leave the vehicle. I've seen failures in many other systems. I do understand that many locals have locations that are restricted from civilian carry. I choose to either avoid those locations or make a special trip to them, and in some cases I merely conceal better.

I do not say any of this to attack anyone who uses a different method, and I'm eager to learn more about why some folks use vehicle-mounted options. I've just not come across a need yet personally.

I admit I am an old man who would be considered set in his ways and not necessarily open to change. But, I have been carrying a gun either personally or professionally since 1994 and have trained and for many of those years taught others in working in and around vehicles.

We're not allowed to have weapons in workplace, and our parking lot has made the news for break-ins and parts shopping.

That is a very interesting dilemma. I've known people who would use a small lockable bag or box and take their gun off in the parking lot and put it in their backpack/ laptop bag and carry that into work. Even if someone saw inside the bag they would see the gun and it was definitely more secure than a parking lot full of thieves. On the other hand, sadly that isn't always a wise decision. The aftermarket companies are dragging their feet on the LC. We may never have access to products such as truckvault or tuffy. In that scenario, I would be looking for a mountable, lockable solution that could be made to fit in the storage just behind the rear seat under the floor. I hope you find a solution that works.

I just use a cable lock and lock it in the glovebox for now, but not what i consider secured beyond legal definition. Definitely in market for something easily accessible, hidden and secure. Probably will buy another Vaultek.

In my experience, unfortunately, the words easily accessible and secure sadly do not belong in the same sentence. Kinda like fast, cheap, and good; we can only pick two.

As with every conversation I’ve ever seen or been apart of regarding firearms, everyone has a hard opinion. Let’s just chalk it up to shooters preference. If it works for you, fantastic.

I remember someone asking the question about the glove box with a cable lock on it during CCW class years ago. I thought the answer was a hard no and that it still was not legal because it was part of the vehicle?

For what it's worth, I would check and make sure It's legal in your area....
