OME BP51 Install

And........ how is the articulation compared to stock? No one ever wants to comment on this, and I had to press Jeff Westcott repeatedly before he finally succumbed and admitted that they "hadn't [actually] measured it" (re: the puck lift, which was claimed to have no effect, lol).

After spending 9 years in a 5th Gen and experiencing how much better the (stock) LC is offroad (it almost never lifts a wheel or slips), I believe that it is the articulation that allows it to climb like a goat. I'd like an inch lift for clearance reasons (any more and won't fit in garage), but I will wait for a solution that is confirmed to not decrease wheel travel.

Great point. My selection criteria for upgraded suspension is to increase droop - any that decrease it are well outside of consideration.

Have you found any that don't decrease articulation?

The out of the box settings are ideal for a cruiser with a factory bumper and no winch. Since I've got a bull bar and winch I adjusted the preload to whatever their recommendation was, I think it was 30mm of preload. It worked great. OME hasn't ever included instructions with their systems before so it was nice to see that the included instructions were really good.

If you are adjusting the coilovers I highly recommend using a wall mounted strut compressor. It is quick and easy with one. Using an external spring compressor would be scary AF.
What rear spring weight did you go with? They seem to offer 3 (0 lbs, 440 ;bs, and 880) -mhttps://store.arbusa.com/search-result?Year=2024&Make=Toyota&Model=Land%20Cruiser

I went with standard because most of the time I have less than 400 pounds of gear. If that changes I'll get heavier duty springs and change them out. Get the springs that are best for the majority of your driving for the next 6 months or so. Swap them out if things change.

I haven't tested the droop yet and don't really expect it to be much different than stock. I also don't care very much if it differs. Most systems that are currently available and affordable (at least to this guy) are keeping the OE lower arms which are the limiting factor in droop.

The factory suspension articulates well enough that it outperforms a Bronco on an RTI ramp. Not bad. The OME will exceed factory components in every category. That means I can go out with my brother's Bronco Heritage and easily hang, but my ear drums won't be bleeding on the way to and from the trails.

The big thing that has always drawn me to OME is ride quality and performance. The lift is a byproduct of the suspension upgrade. I'm guessing that most other kits that replace factory components are going to be pretty good. Except Rough Country. Avoid that :poop:

Thanks. When you say standard is that with no springs then? You rely on the stock springs?

I’m using the OME light duty springs.

Regarding the collar lift, it is almost guaranteed to have less overall wheel travel than stock by limiting uptravel without any additional downtravel. It's just simple physics.

Regarding suspension kits that will give you more downtravel, you'll also need to factor in replacing the CV axles with those from a TRD Offroad or Trailhunter Tacoma, as the CV axles are what limits the downtravel on a 250. I suppose a diff drop can get you there, too.

Early intel indicates that lofts over 2” or so really should have a dif drop anyway.

I've got mine installed now. Didn't adjust preload on the fronts and have decided to not put the 2" rear spring on yet. it sits fairly close to level with the front being a touch higher. I have the Westcott .75" lift spacer on the rear still.

I haven't touched any of the compression or rebound settings. It rides so damn nice... softer or at least as soft as stock but I do feel like it's a bit "floaty" on some roads. Desert season is around the corner, so I'll leave it alone until after I wheel it once.

CV angles look fine, but I will be adding a diff drop.

What do CV angles look like at full droop?
Does the UCA touch the spring at full droop? I'm betting it hits.
Could you measure hub center to fender at ride height and full droop?

Very nice! Would love to see pics of the whole set up now!

Still working on it! Just installed the OME UCAs today.

Those were a bear for me on the driver's side bolt. Passenger side was a breeze. On driver's side,I removed the charge pipe but the flange of the UCA bolt was hitting the hard plastic outlet pipe from the intercooler and I wasn't about to start removing that So i ended up taking a Dremel to part of the bolt to flatten one side. Kinda hard to explain but it did the trick.

Desperately needs an alignment now with the the changes to geometry from the OME vs stock UCA. I had zero UCA spring contact with the stock arms at droop and the OMEs give you even more room.

Here's my only concern, this tab on the forward part of the UCA looks like it could come into contact with the reservoir hose. Did any of you guys have issues? Passenger side is too close for my tastes so I'm going to adjust the reservoir location in it's mount.

I had forgotten about the driver side UCA bolt. It did suck! I undid that flange and used a couple of pry bars to get things to flex a bit and was a little worried about breaking something.

I'll take a look at my lines, but I don't remember worrying about that tab. My reservoir is mounted more forward than yours is.

thanks for chiming in! what's that tab even for? i may remove it...

edit: theory - it is for the GX550 AVS wiring loom.

happy to take these measurements when i get a chance!

i will say, when i first installed the BP-51, it was at 24" in the fronts, hub center to fender, so the nose was "bro lifted" haha. it has settled a bit and i am now at 23.5 on all 4 corners. I think it's perfect here and ready for larger tires soon.

zero UCA spring contact though both with stock and OME at full droop.

I am installing a diff drop this weekend.

hey, i measured hub to fender with full droop, 26.5", my ride height it sits at 23.5", so 3" down travel now with the lift, swaybar connected. i did not take "before" lift measurements. if you are stock, do you have your ride height and droop #'s? thanks

Awesome. Thanks for measuring! Was droop with both front sides hanging, or cross-flexing the suspension? If the later, do you have sway-bar disconnect?

Stock measured before lift.
Front ride height was 20.75"
Front full droop was 25.25". This was flexing the suspension with sway bar disconnected.

If you get a chance to check front full compression, I'd be interested to know if you have more than the stock 8" of front suspension travel.
Stock front compressed was 17.2".

This is this is the first OME BP51 kit that landed in the US a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been sitting on it for about a week. I didn’t have time to tackle it until this weekend. Installation was smooth. Much better than the bull bar.

Nobody posts pics of lifts with stock tires, so I thought it would be funny. That will be rectified this week. The last pic is a badger I saw while riding my bike.
Any specific watch outs for install? I’ll be doing my MT-64 with UCA’s soon.

Looks straight forward, but always helps to ask.

Your LC looks great! Love the color!
