[Now Available] AWE Exhaust for the Toyota J250 Land Cruiser 2.4T

I'll be staying tuned, to see if Nor Cal Cruiser's drone issue settles down once he's accumulated some miles. I've had exhaust systems that settled down after install and exhaust systems that got worse over time in terms of unwanted noises. Let's see what this one does.

I don't want to shoot too quickly here but around 200 miles in with one tank and liking it more. There is noise, which I like (and sought), and I think there is less drone. No idea exactly how the soundwaves work or why breaking in would change this (maybe an ECU thing), but I do like this exhaust and do not regret it. Will update more later.
Any way you could post a video from inside your LC at a couple different speeds?

There you go. Nice to see that AWE is reading our threads and responding with a sensible response. I'm very impressed.

The 0FG Exhaust with BashGuard™:

Single 3” American-sourced T304L stainless steel with a .065” wall thickness runs seamlessly from front to back, beginning with a factory-matched flange that bolts up immediately after the emissions equipment.

Inside, AWE’s patented drone-canceling 180 Technology® keeps the cabin calm while a rear-mounted, precision-tuned resonator shapes the tone to produce a rich, deep, and perfectly balanced note through the entire rev range.

Capping it all off is AWE’s reinforced BashGuard™. That’s the .125”-thick stainless ring protecting the exhaust outlet, tucked high out of harm’s way, providing an additional 2.75” of clearance compared to the factory exhaust. Thanks to the 0FG’s elevated design, contact with terrain is nearly impossible, but if it ever happens, BashGuard™ takes the hit, not your exhaust.

Perfect tone, compliments of AWE 180 Technology®:

Keeping the aggression at the rear of the Land Cruiser, and out of the cabin, is AWE’s patented drone-canceling solution, 180 Technology®.

As exhaust gasses exit the 2.4T engine and flow into an AWE 180 Technology®-equipped resonator, they pass through strategically located ports and into reflection chambers. Sound waves carried by these exhaust gasses bounce off the walls of the reflection chambers. By controlling the size and location of the ports and chambers, we also control when the sound waves exit the chambers. The specific timing of when the reflected sound waves rejoin the main exhaust flow creates a one-hundred-and-eighty-degree out-of-phase sound wave that cancels out problematic frequencies.

Full-bodied aggression remains behind the driver, and complete comfort is achieved in the cabin at cruising speeds, all while unlocking a superior soundtrack and optimal flow compared to stock.

100% emission-friendly:

The 0FG Exhaust does not interfere with any factory emissions equipment.

Made in PA, USA:

Engineered, designed, and manufactured in-house at AWE.

The fine print:

AWE’s Perfect Fitment Guarantee, No CEL Guarantee, and Lifetime Warranty all come standard.

Dang, im not big on exhaust sounds on non-performance/sports car type vehicles but I actually really like the way this sounds.

Sorry for the interim updates but I am getting more sound now and less drone. I wanted the sound part of it. And as far as I could tell in my research, this is the best sounding option on the market. Again, I do not regret it. More on this going forward . . .

This sounds great, especially from the outside. My 15 yo daughter asked me what I did to it and called it "really loud." It is not really loud but it does provide more sound and that is part of what I wanted. I want this thing to sound a bit more like a truck than a car, and it does.

Both AWE and Magnaflow have videos available with how their exhaust systems sound on the LC250. Members here and others on YouTube have posted up video clips of Toyota’s own TRD exhaust.

If this system is anything like one of my favourite exhaust upgrades (30+ years ago), as some combustion products settle into the packing the tone should change after some miles. Hopefully for the better. That vehicle/exhaust system from ages ago I refer to didn’t burn as clean as we’d expect a Land Cruiser to, so it could take a minute.

I am about 500 miles in on my AWE exhaust and installed a cold air intake this morning (somehow got a non-CARB compliant one sent to California). Some notes and thoughts:

The exhaust is settling in nicely and is much more, if not entirely, sound now, not drone. Not sure what that change would be from and how much is my simply adjusting to it. But I think there is a change and I like it. I wanted some sound and I have it.

The install was easy though I did not have access to a lift and had to do it on the ground (in my friend's driveway for spousal reasons). Not tricky at all but it did take about two hours. As I recall, you need a 14mm socket wrench to remove all OEM bolts and a 14mm to reinstall the front spring bolts. Every other bolt was a 15mm on the AWE exhaust clamps. I used one of the long top pieces on the AWE packing box to slide the large resonator under the car without scratching the new exhaust and could easily hold every other piece and mount without scratching on the ground. Easy enough. I also had to drop the spare tire to fit the over axle part and could not do it without dropping the spare. If anyone is having this installed at a proper shop and you are charged more than an hour of labor you are getting ripped off. I am not a mechanic and think I could do it in 30-45 minutes if I had access to a lift. One hour of shop labor is fair but more is not.

The CAI was also an easy install but I had a bitch of a time with the grommets. You need to swap the OEM grommets onto the SXTH Element CAI. That part is easy to do, but I could not access the front two with my hands while trying to mount the new box on the posts and they kept popping out during that process. Took me a half dozen times or so to finally get all of the grommets to stay on the new CAI air box while mounting on the posts. Recommend a small amount of silicon lube only in the center part of the grommet and try not to get any where the grommet touches the new air box. There is now a lot of nice turbo noise that previously was harder to hear. I think it's a good sound, and I also think the throttle is a little smoother and more responsive. I have no dyno results and probably never will. Only complaint is no new sticker for my growing toolbox.

Will probably post again but for those with the AWE in hand and considering the install I wanted to share this before you make any other decisions. I really like this setup and do not regret anything. Sounds are good, and I feel some performance change (to be clear I am still driving this like the truck it is and unlike my prior BMWs that I was always hammering; not trying to turn this into a sports car it is not). I would be happy with either of these mods in isolation but think the combo is great. More air in, more exhaust out.

Hope this helps some of you.

Thanks Nor Cal Cruiser ... I appreciate your observations.

The AWE exhaust is on my list but I only have 3000 miles on a 2025 LC. I will likely drive it stock until next summer and then do the change.

Short video/sound clips, all from a dead stop (sorry if this is not professional quality, I have no idea how best to do this).

First one is on a flat road up to about 35 mph, first with all windows closed and towards the end with the front two windows down.

Sorry, the other two are apparently too large even though only 20-30 seconds each.

Finally installed mine today, and I basically echo everything Nor Cal has said so far. I only did a quick spin so I def need to give it a few hunderd miles or so to settle in. That being said, crusing at 65 1500 RPM, I can't hear it. It's in lower gears between 50-60 that it's currently a little "droney" but again, I just installed it. I'll report back in 500 miles or so as well. I think I'm going to like it.

Install was very easy, it took me an hour and half using these tools, and only putting the rear on jack stands. The exhaust hangar pliers for sure made this job so much easier, I didn't even lube them up. The hardest part was getting the spring bolts started. That's where my "Icon G2 1/4" flex head to snap-on 3/8 internals" ratchet came in very handy.

Only tip I would have is pay close attention to the over axle pipe and its positioning when tightening. It will move on you if you don't hang onto it. Getting in the right spot under the heat shield while not having it touch the axle can be tricky by yourself, just pay attention and give it short ugga duggas with your impact.

I have had both Magnaflow and AWE on my Jeeps. I currently have the Magnaflow on my LC as the AWE was not available when I upgraded. While I'm happy with the Magnaflow, it has a more subdued sound. I think AWE is a bit higher in quality and finish. If I were doing this upgrade today, I would with out a doubt go with the AWE.

Curious how you base your statement regarding AWE over Magnaflow? I've never owned any AWE products where I've had numerous Magnaflow products over time. I also ran Borla systems on several NAS Defenders. I currently have a '25 4Runner TRD PRO which has Toyota's TRD Exhaust which is said to be manufactured by Borla. It's ok but sounds horrible when the engine lugs

I base my statement on having owned and installed both systems on the same vehicle. I like magna flow just fine, but the finish and quality of the AWE unit was superior in my mind. The AWE was also a bit deeper and more aggressive while the magna flow was more subdued. In short, based on my install of both units and living with them both for a while.

I agree install was very straight forward. I’m at a little over 800 miles on mine so far. The exhaust does quite down a bit. One interesting thing I noticed is the LC250 seems to go into hybrid mode more during normal and eco mode. As far as mpg go mines stayed the same. No issues or CEL to report from the system. It’s been in the teens and lower the past few days and the LC250 done great.
