Biggest difference from your 4R experience is torque - LC is a monster compared to the anemic 4.0L.

Premium fuel - Dig into the forum. The T24A has a dual injection system, & you really want good fuel w/ Direct Injection. Spark plug replacement is earlier to support the DI running smooth.

MPG is all over the place on the forum. Altitude, driving habits, mods w/ all have effect. W/ your described mods I’d expect you’d be around 16/18.

I get 16 around town and upwards of 19 on the road with the Nittos. Average 17+

So if you moved to the Land Cruiser platform you could be in the same ballpark with improved responsiveness thrown in.

I'll admit I enjoyed the V6 4Runner, but I wasn't really prepared when I found out how well the Land Cruiser moved- how effortless the turbo 4 with hybrid feels on the highway. When Toyota discontinued the six in favour of the turbo 4 there were a lot of naysayers online and in-person, but I find the Land Cruiser very nice to drive under every condition (so far). One of those naysayers is a friend of mine- he loved his older Tacoma and while intrigued by the iForce Max hybrid concept, he had to drive one for himself. He now has a Tacoma Trailhunter.

I think the 4 Runner Limited and Platinum (personal choice platinum)trims are the Goldilocks trims for the 4 Runner If you need or desire full time 4 wheel
Drive. Add an aftermarket rear locker and got something pretty capable if you need that also.

I recently changed from a 4runner to an LC and regret it. I really wish I had my old 4runner back. For me, it's mostly the continuous notifications and constant alarm beeps that drive me crazy. It's like having your mom in the backseat constantly telling you what you can and can't do. I've disabled about half the safety systems to make it manageable but miss the days when cars just did what you told them to do without talking back or denying your request.

It seems to me after seeing some videos that possibly the 1958 bells and whistles might be easier to turn off? It’s just a simple scroll to that row and making some selections to turn them off with a long press on the OK button. Looking at some videos the premium Reims take some more navigating to get tot he menus.

My last vehicle was very low-tech- the techiest bits (CarPlay head unit and backup cam) were aftermarket bits I added myself.

There was a period where I had to “learn to speak Toyota” after getting our Land Cruiser. Do those nannie’s and tech laden parts increase safety? Possibly. Do they improve the driving experience? Potentially. Do they make me a better driver? That’s putting lipstick on a pig
