Only vehicle I have worried about leaving at a trail head for extended periods of time. Heading into the backcountry for awhile and I do worry about the LC a bit at the trailhead. Oh well just a vehicle.

Me too. I've had cars broken into 3 times at trailheads. Replacing broken glass gets old. A couple things I've learned.

First, if there is someone at the trailhead that doesn't look like they belong there. Leave. Find a new hike. Sad, but they are probably waiting for a hiker to head out, knowing that they will have plenty of time to '"go shopping." In the 3 cases that my car was broken into there was someone hanging out at the trailhead.

Second, thieves are lazy. The hikes near population centers are much more likely to be a problem. Pick a hike that is in the back country. The chances that anyone that goes miles out on a lousy road robbing you are slim.

And enjoy the hike. :)
