2025 LC 1958
Part of the deal I made with Toyota when purchasing my 1958 was that they would install leather in it. They finally called me today to bring it in and install it. Everything seems good so far, but I’m just curious if anyone has any input on this or has any recommendations on what to look out for?

Has anyone had them do this?

I have factory leather, but have seen multiple 1958s with Katzkin leather. I thought the Katzkin looked nicer and had a better hand/feel. I'll bet you love it!

I’m very skeptical that you made this kind of a deal with Toyota, I’m thinking it was probably a dealer you made that deal with. Otherwise you would have had to bring your vehicle to Japan, which perhaps you did.

The Katzkin ones posted here did look nice. Very factory IMO

lol. Obviously I mean the Toyota dealership I got the car from. I am skeptical this post is not satire.

It’s actually not katzkin, I confirmed this with them. Apparently they have a company that specifically does this. Apparently in my area a lot of people request it and they are doing it to make the deal happen. I pick up the car tomorrow so we shall see.

It's not from Toyota. Your dealer took it to a trim shop. Katskinz is a very good product. The 1958's weren't moving really well in my area, I saw a bunch where the dealer had Katskinz installed to make the vehicle more desirable.

FWIW: I just got a new F150 and the seat piping was annoying the heck out of me. I had a trim shop remove it and they replaced the panel with Katskinz vinyl (I have ActiveX, which is Ford's Softex) and it is definitely of better quality than either Ford's ActiveX or Toyota's Softex. I'd go with it over leather, and I have always been a leather guy.

I getting leather. It's not katzkins. I don't know what it is but they told me it's leather straight from a cow's ass.
Dude they're making that deal with everyone after purchase. Your dealership is not special. I hope you didn't get ripped off and if you are getting katzkins, you'll be very happy.

Any chance you're in Rochester? They were doing some aftermarket leather jobs when I picked up my non-1958 version. Seemed to be a big selling point - they were talking about a local co that came in and redid the seats - looks like you're in NY?

Historically, Toyota has been relatively stingy with factory leather for numerous models and the dealers long ago found good, local trim shops that can replace an SR5’s cloth with nice leather.

Though for now I’m fine the my 58’s cloth, I wouldn’t hesitate to replace it with leather if it wears prematurely

I wanted the ostrich leather, but I settled on regular cows ass leather, cant win them all!

I am in long island, close. i am sure its not un common though for certain markets. NY seems like it may be one of those markets...

Alea Leather is the way to go in my opinion.

I got alea leather installed on the 1958 including the center and arm rest. The perforation and color and material are identical to premium LC pattern

Nicely done. Would you mind sharing what the cost was to do this? Can't get over the high quality of an aftermarket installation, and appears 10x better than the covers they do on other Toyota models like the Highlander

My GSD ripped the back seat with her paws so I replaced the cheesy Toyota seats with Katzkins. Big improvement in looks and comfort.
