The 4Runner isn't a Land Cruiser but it has its share of diehard fans. Whether the new LC250 meets others' criteria of "real" or not, the fact that it shares as much DNA as it does with the current 4Runner isn't a bad thing, and when you factor in that Toyota tweaked that platform to make a unique global platform that (IMHO) makes it better.

Whether Joe Random thinks the LC250 is worthy or not doesn't get in my way of appreciating ours.

For what its worth... I wouldn't want a 100 or 300 as they are in my opinion BORING. There are reasons the 300 is no longer in the USA one of them being nobody (ok hardly anyone) wanted them, especially north of $100K for a station wagon. The 300/100 is not a particularly good-looking vehicle as it blends in with all the other "meh" on the road. It's large and "nimble" it is not. Reliable? Absolutely, but so is my John Deere.
The haters (and there are many, especially on YouTube and the like) and their "it's not really a Land Cruiser" are an insecure bunch. They believe they are the purists of the emblem and don't want any intrusions on their petty little club. Ignore them completely and continue to spread the news of this awesome LAND CRUISER 250.

Yeah I wouldn’t want a 300-series even if it was $50k USD. I just have no interest in a big, bloated, luxury-focused people mover.

Different tools for different uses. Both have their place. I’d love to have an “overpriced” older Land Cruiser (though I’d prefer an 80, not a 100).

Not mine, spotted it in Kiroro, Japan earlier this year. Reading this thread about safari yellow 70 series sparked the memory, and thought I'd share the picture. Not sure if this is true "safari" yellow, but it's definitely yellow. So many beautiful JDM LC's all over Japan. I was admiring the simplicity of this one for quite some time, a picture was all I could bring home.

If I may add to the topic of this thread... if Toyota calls it a Land Cruiser, it's a real Land Cruiser. I'm proud to say I own a Land Cruiser 250. Been a long term dream to own a Land Cruiser after enjoying two Toyota Trucks and two Toyota 4Runners, finally made it a reality last year with a brand new one. Oh, What a Feeling!

The Prado is a land cruiser. Might be light duty, but its a land cruiser. I suspect its more capable than needed for majority of its owners. I know personally that's the case for me and I'm happy its that way. Id rather not need it and have it than the other way around. Now my dream would be a 70 series w/ triple lockers, but honestly I really don't need that level of capability. I spend 95%+ of my time on road. I wont even be switching to off road tires because the off roading I do is fairly easy. I suspect most LC owners will have their needs met with the Prado that we have here (maybe some need very light modifications).
