I can verify that this does work BUT it will disable your ability to use adaptive cruise control. That's the cruise where it slows/speeds up based on forward traffic. If you don't care about that then it will 100% solve the annoying beeping while backing up with a bike rack.
You only need to wire the coil to the 7 PIN plug and plug the 7 PIN into the LC. It makes the LC think that there's a trailer with electric brakes connected and will disable the backup brake/alert stuff. It also disables adaptive cruise control. I use that all the time so for now I just hit the mute button on the touch screen when I put the LC in reverse.
Push the button on the dash. Then go to your driver display settings menu, scroll down to PKSB (in pic), and turn that off. Voila! Works great for my rear bike rack, and takes less than 10 seconds.
I got it but if I understand it correctly, this method allows me to use multiple different rented trailers.
Ohh I understand what you're saying. Using the 7 pin plug with the coil wired up will definitely disable the backup stuff. I haven't tested but I would thank that if you also plug in a 4 pin to the LC the backup stuff will stay disabled.
That's the idea. Plug in the 4 pin connector from any 4 pin trailer harness and also plug in this 7 pin "dummy" at the same time. I wouldn't leave the 7 pin dummy plug in unless I had a trailer connected.

I explored the Idea of using a 7 to 4 pin adapter, I found there isn't enough room, internally, for the coil. I also explored mounting an actual trailer brake magnet externally to a 7 to 4 pin adapter, it worked but was hideous, bulky and fragile and ended up on the "good idea but not practical" shelf......... LOL
I don't tow a trailer but I have my bike rack on the back pretty much all of the time. I live in the country and use adaptive cruise on regular roads. I understand the reasoning why adaptive cruise would be bad while towing a trailer. It would be really nice if we could specifically disable the reverse proximity sensors (Toyota plz help us). I have the volume on the proximity warnings turned down as low as they'll go. I'm used to it enough now that I just hit the mute button when I'm backing up.
IMO, enhanced features should be an "Opt in" vs "try and figure how to turn them off". Got kids or live in a kid filled neighborhood all the anti-back up features are a great and wonderful thing, but rural and the closest child lives 2 miles away....... just a PITA
I had to turn my front one off because I had a grill guard installed. Dealership was going to charge me $150 but we did a little online homework and learned there are two ways to turn it off. One is the parking assist button to left of the steering wheel. Second is going into the menu and then to gear for settings and then you can turn off parking assist. We did both. Took 30 seconds.
