How quiet is the LC as a highway cruiser? Road or wind noise? Is the GX 550 any quieter?

As I understand it, the GX has sound attenuating glass on the sides, whereas the LC does not. Not sure re the door skin insulation, other than a posted video indicated minimum on the LC, roughly a 4" x 4" patch. All manufacturers are resorting to ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) by the sound system vs physical noise abatement materials. Saves weight and manufacturing cost.

My experience is the wind noise from the side mirrors starts about 65 MPH. Some people fold them if they don't need them. If the terrain is flat you can then cruise at 70 MPH leveraging the hybrid at about 1,700 RPMs which is very smooth and quiet.

The Youtubers at Car Confections do an informal decibel test on the vehicle reviews. Link below to their master list.

Shock! The 1958 was quieter than the GX 550 Overtrail+ I am skeptical because the GX has more sound dampening and better glass but it also has a bigger roof rack and ferring.

Great resource PACruiser! Amazed the 1958 was quieter than the LC trim. Roof rack vs no roof rack?

Test drove both LC 1958 and GX550 Luxury factory tires at 65 mph on same strip of freeway, dealerships are next door to each other LC actually quieter with 62db and GX at 64 using my decibel meter from harbor freight. Iโ€™d call that negligible difference.

Based on our multiple road trips to Utah and California. Itโ€™s very quiet even with the factory cross bars on. On gusty days, itโ€™s more audible, but that means itโ€™s going to be the same in other vehicles as well.

It's so quiet and peaceful they had to install al sorts of head position sensors to keep you awake and somewhat alert.
Muck noisier rumbling tires might help depends on you.

I get some wind noise through the driver side glass. I did hear the gx 550 glass is different and not as noisy.

I've done a lot of road tripping (11k miles so far) and the road noise isn't really that bad.

Drive a Jeep and a Bronco and then the LC. The LC is quiet and boring in comparison but well equipped off road. (Iโ€™ve drive all three). If you want a capable vehicle that is also luxury this is probably the ticket.

Compared to my 2014 Grand Cherokee, it has less road noise but more wind noise. The wind noise is fairly stable white noise, not whistling. It's quieter than my wife's 2019 Odyssey in both road and wind noise.

Coming from a JLU Sahara, the LC is silent in comparison. There's wind noise above 65 or so, more noticeable above 75 mph. I just did a trip from near State College, PA to Bethesda, MD and back in one day...as usual, noise really wasn't an issue for me.

If one side is your typical jeep/bronco and the other is luxury SUVs like an X5 or GLE, it's definitely closer to the luxury side.

Some wind noise at higher speeds for sure, but it's a fairly quiet ride, especially if you have audio playing at a normal volume.
